June 1, 2008

To: Members and Prospective Members of the Madison Association of Watch
     and Clock Collectors

We had 23 attendees at the April 2 meeting. The program was a
presentation on internet horology. We showed the NAWCC site, plus a
number of auction company sites. We also discussed the pros and cons of
buying via EBay. Members reported on both positive and negative
experiences on Ebay.

Our June meeting will be Wednesday June 4 at 7 pm at the Fitchburg
Community Center. Our program will be a presentation by Jerry Kieffer on
making coil springs from piano wire.

At the April meeting we discussed upcoming events. The Midwest
Regional will be August 8-9. Also, there will be a Joint Mart at Antioch IL
on Sunday, October 12.

The treasurer reported that we had $621 in the treasury, after renewing the
room for the next 12 months.

The Midwest Regional was discussed. Donations and volunteers are being
solicited. Several changes were announced. The Committee will be holding
electronic meetings on the future, which require a revision of the bylaws.
Dates have been set for 5 years out, all in early August. The tailgate
registration will be inside the hotel, rather than in the parking lot itself.
The door to the Mart room will be moved.

We had a number of items on display. Carmon Howe brought an Ansonia
wall Clock with lions heads carved in to the case. The movement has an
1878 patent date. The finials are not original, and it appears there was
something additional on the bottom of the case. He is looking for
information as to finials and the case bottom.

Other items on display included:

*	Seth Thomas shelf clock with lion heads carved into the case, model
        name unknown.
*	Welch parlor clock, also model name unknown.
*	Roosevelt clock. This cast frame originally would have had an
electric movement, possibly United Electric. That movement is gone,
and has been replaced with a Westclox movement.
*	Tiffany NeverWind (battery powered, patented 1901)
*	1930’s era Packard car clock
*	Kendall and Dent fusee pocket watch.
*	Waltham gold watch

Guests are always welcome. Please remember to bring display items and
mart items; we will be continuing the same $1/$2 door donation, so bringing
a display or mart item will save you a dollar. Hope to see you on June 4.

Sincerely,
Dale Beske
