To: Members and Prospective Members of the Madison Association of Watch
     and Clock Collectors

We had about 14 members and spouses at the October meeting.
Our program was a presentation on early electric clocks by
Ray Fanchamps. Ray provided an excellent display of various
forms of electric clocks, including a Warren Mystery clock,
a Murday clock with Hipp toggle contacts, a Eureka with
isochronous spring escapement, a Bulle with garnitures, a
clock by an unknown maker with a gravity escapement and Hipp
toggle contacts, another unknown, and a Scotte clock. Ray
also put together a power point presentation showing some of
the escapements and explained how they worked n(or, in some
cases, how they were intended to work). Our thanks go to
Ray for all his efforts in putting together this fine
program.

We discussed several upcoming events including the Tom
Harris auction, and the NAWCC Symposium.

We thanked President Leroy Baker for his work on the Midwest
Regional, serving as registration chair and as our
representative to the Regional Board.

A nominating committee was selected at the October meeting.

In addition to the items listed above, we had several other
items on display. These included a cast iron three
presidents clock, with Franklin Roosevelt at the helm. The
movement had an animated bartender, with the arm shaking a
drink. We also had 2 battery electric clocks: a Barr
electric which runs on 3 D cells, and a Schatz
transistorized clock that runs on an AA battery.

Our December meeting will be Wednesday December 5 at 7 pm at
the Fitchburg Community Center. Our program will be a
presentation by Paul Anderson on the basics of wood carving.
He is a nationally known wood carver. He will talk on the
basics of carving and how to get started. Members are
encouraged to bring in clocks which need carving done, so
that Mr. Anderson can make suggestions as to how the carving
might be handled.

Also at the December meeting, we will receive a report on
the 2008 Midwest Regional. Leroy Baker has been elected
President of the Board of Directors for the Regional. The
Board of Directors has extended an invitation to the Peace
Pipe Chapter of Indiana to join the Regional.

Elections will be held at the December meeting. The
nominating committee will present a list of candidates.
Nominations will also be accepted from the floor. If you
are interested in serving as an officer, please let that be
known.

Two more announcements: The Milwaukee chapter will be
holding a Holiday party on December 16. Reservations are
required by December 8. I will bring a reservation form
along to the December meeting for those who are interested.

There is a new watch and clock club forming in Rockford.
They meet on the 4th Tuesday of the month. I will bring a
copy of their newsletter along for anyone who is interested.

Guests are always welcome. Please remember to bring
display items and mart items; we will be continuing the same
$1/$2 door donation, so bringing a display or mart item will
save you a dollar. Hope to see you on December 5.

Sincerely,

Dale Beske
