Getting to Know You

These are lists of questions you can use to get to know someone.

Practice reading them out loud so that they become comfortable and easy to say.

Next, try using them in class when you meet other students.

Don't ask all of these questions in the same order. It is not a questionnaire. Have fun!

List 1

1. What is your name?
2. What is your job? --or–What do you do?
3. Where are you from?
4. What is your hometown like?
5. Where do you live?
6. Do you like where you live?
7. How long have you lived there?
8. Where do you work? --or-- Where do you go to school?
9. How long is your commute to and from work?
10. What company do you work for? -- or -- What school do you go to?
11. Do you like your school / job? Why?
12. Do you use English at work / school?
13. What do you study? --or-- What do you major in? Why did you choose that major?
14. What do you do at work?
15. What do you like about your job / major?
16. Why did you choose that job?
17. When are your days off?
18. How many days a week do you work / go to school?
19. How long have you worked there? -- or — What year are you in at university?
20. What do you like to do in your free time?

List 2

1. How long have you been studying English?
2. Why do you study English?
3. When did you start studying English?
4. Have you ever been abroad?
5. What countries have you been to?
6. Did you go on vacation or on business?
7. How long did you stay?
8. Why did you go to that country?
9. What do you like about that country?
10. What is your favorite city in Japan? Why?
11. Do you like sports?
12. What sports do you like? Why?
13. Do you play any sports?
14. What sports do you play?
15. Do you like music?
16. What kind of music do you like?
17. What is your favorite music group?
18. What is your favorite movie?
