Why is it that no matter what one does, their past comes back for a visit? As soon as G'taeo thinks he has thrown his past behind him, it decides to play a game of leap-frog, and suddenly it's staring him in the face once again.

Several years ago, he fell for the woman he was sure he would spend the rest of his life with. Then she died of a tragic sickness that had passed through his town like a wave of death, killing all of its victims. Gero was more than crushed, for one who is hurt usually bounces back. Life had lost all meaning for the young man, and it was only his brother, Gato, who could pull him from his own personal pit of despair.

Their father was an unfortunate man, caught in his own wheel of destruction. Gato and Gero were not full-blooded brothers, but half-brothers. Each had his own mother, in a pair of best friends wooed by the same man, around the same time, and unbeknownst to the ladies. This young man by the name of Manuen had been stuck, loving both girls equally. But when they found out about his double life, he lost both!

Gero and Gato grew up with their sire, apart from their mothers. It had been their punishment, and lesson taught to Manuen. The unfortunate consequence was that neither child had been loved properly by his sire. Gero in particular had been shunned and often mistreated by a man who felt that the boy looked too much like his mother.

To this day, Gero can't seem to hide from the man's womanizing legacy. In an attempt to move on with his life after the loss of his lady-love, Layla, he and his dragon, Yellow Xerbith, decided to attend the Fiery Fall Festival Frenzy, a multiple-dragon mating frenzy in honor of Autumn and dragons of that color. Before he knew it, a noble act became a life-altering hindrance as the young man brought home with him three female slaves! Intending to buy their freedom, he had actually acquired his own serving crew. All three were used to another form of shauvenism, and now he has the task of teaching them the meaning of "freedom."
