In The Name of the Moon

In The Name of the Moon is a site designed for those interested in general Sailor Moon information. Originally the site was a "babyz" site, which could cause users some confusion, but it should pass quickly once you get past the splash page. The link to the site is at the bottom of the page.

Most of the pages in the site load quickly, and with no ads or errors. The only exception to this is the EZBoard forum. It's not the webmistress's fault here...it used to be that EZBoard was a sleek and slim forum that competed quite well with UBB, but the costs of running a successful free site have gotten to EZBoard, so now their forums are a maze of error-ridden scripts and popup ads.

Oh well!

ITNotM has the beginnings of a solid base from which to expand. As it stands now, the site is a bit weak on info. There is a section of Sailor profiles, and each one has the standard list of profile information that you can find almost anywhere else. After the list of information, there is a brief paragraph or two describing the Sailor, then a list of her powers, abilities, and command phrases. All of this should be expanded. Grab a pic of two from an archive site and give the reader something to look at. Expand the info to perhaps include your own personal views of the Sailors. While the criticism may sound harsh, in this day of post-TV Sailor Moon, people will be looking for viewer insight as to what these characters were like as well as what their favorite food is. If they can get what they want from somewhere else, why stop at a page that doesn't offer it?

Outside of the profiles, there are quite a few other things for a user to do at ITNotM. There is a nice links library which is subdivided into various categories, there is a collection of writings and some orphaned Sailors for people to adopt.

Now, here's some of the things that can be fixed at ITNotM...

There is some minor dub/original mixing, mostly in the form of Lita/Makoto, Serena/Uasgi, etc. This is both tedious to read and dangerous in terms of accuracy. What if your going along writing material and you come across something that Ami did in the original, but was cut out of the dub, so Amy never did it?

A small note: people still tend to get ticked at the use of the term "Scouts".

The backgrounds often clash with the text colors. The backgrounds themselves tend to be a bit "busy", and this draws attention from the content to the background graphics. Perhaps backgrounds a bit more subdued would correct this.

Make sure to put an extra space between your paragraphs. I hate to sound like an english teacher, but not spacing your paragraphs makes the material hard to read, and anything that makes life difficult to a webpage user is not a good thing.

Most of the rest of my peeves are personal...such as the use of the P Diddy song (which he ripped off The Police) for a poem to the victims of the terror attacks on Sept. 11... (I dislike it when STING rips his own stuff off, that's how tightly-wound I am about this...) However, it's the non-personal stuff that counts... (getting into my Weakest Link groove here...)

I'd make sure and run through the site with a spell-check, just to be sure. And one thing on the main page...one of the big complaints about my site when I first started it was that it ran on and on and on and on and on and...you get the picture. While your main page is not nearly as bad as mine was, you might consider re-arranging the page so that the menu is a bit higher up and the other content arranged so that it fits on the screen right as it's done loading. There are various navigation aides that would work.

Thanks for giving credit where it is due. There are too many stories of people doing everything from not giving credit to outright theft, so it is good to see someone doing the right thing.
