Scene 5: Song: Two

(Editor's note: Follow the harp first, but whenever the ocarina plays, follow that instead.)

Two

Helen:
Two is the number of men that I love
And the men who love me have the same number, too.
War splits kingdoms into two
Battles lend the grass red hue
Will the victor notice that
The heart he’s gained is halved?
Symmetry and mirrors seem to scurry after me
And there is no escape from this plurality
Do I have to choose between them,
These twin, double worlds of mine,
Or must I halt, not to cross either line?
Paris is my handsome love,
Pretty as the gods above
Earth spins just a little faster
When she hears him laugh.
But I recall my Soldier standing
‘Neath night’s violet sky
As a dove left his fingers to fly.
Smiling he promised me he’d let me hold it soon
As the white wings printed their dark shadow on the moon.
I wish I could hold them both, but then I see the sun
And his loneliness tells me just one.
Two is the number of lives that I lead
So it’s two hearts within me that silently bleed,
Torn in two.
