Scene 6

Inside Troy. The Chorus (except Chorus 5) is divided as half Trojan civilians, posed in various ways throughout the stage, and Achaian soldiers hunting for them; occasionally, a civilian is found and drops to the earth, whereupon the soldier remains still. This, to some quiet, short music (perhaps Allecto). Enter Aeneas.

Aeneas: Iulus? Iulus, child, where are you? Father?

Anchises: I thought you wouldn't come for us.

Aeneas: Would I leave my own father behind? Hurry. Where's Creusa?

Creusa: I'm right here.

Aeneas: Hurry. We've got to get out of this wreck. Before long, the flames will be too hot and the smoke too thick for us to escape.

They hasten off, but as they go by, a soldier grabs Creusa unnoticed. After a pause, reenter Aeneas.

Aeneas: Creusa? Creusa!

A member of the Chorus drags him off.

Aeneas: Creusa, where are you? I'll never leave until I find you! I'll never be happy again!

The Chorus brings him to the edge of the stage. He sinks down miserably.
Enter Agamemnon.
The battle around Agamemnon resumes. Screams come from off-stage and on. He gradually becomes more and more horrified as realization dawns.

Agamemnon: This isn't war—these are civilians. I'm sick of this! I hate it! I want to go home. Please, father Zeus... Earth Shaker... all you in Heaven...
