During the 3rd century B.C. coinage of Bosporus suffered through an extended monetary crisis. An intense issue of copper coins started, with frequent change in types and a sharp drop in weight, widespread use of re-coining of older issues with newer types or countermarking them. The beginning of the crisis is tied to countermarking of coins of the Satyr/lion type with images of "star" and "gorythos" (Scythean bowcase) and the issue of the Satyr / bow and arrow type. Such coins were minted on new planchets, as well as re-coined from coins of previous issues. During the period of their issue, their weight had fallen from 8 grams to 1 gram. Issue of these coins dates to the reign of Perisad II (275-245 B.C.).
