Chaning Messenger Sounds

Question: Can you change the sounds that Msn Messenger makes?

Answer: On Msn Messenger there are 4 main sounds. One for when someone comes online, one for when you receive a new e-mail, one for when someone sends you an instant message and one for new alerts. It is very simple to edit these sound files since they are in the Messenger directory and you have easy access to them. First off the files have to be .wav . If you want a file that's an .mp3 to play download a .mp3 to .wav converter (Note: .mp3's when converted to .wav's are much bigger). Now once you have your four (or less) sounds you need to rename them. For the one you want to play when you receive a message call it "type.wav". For when you recieve a new alert name it "newalert.wav". For when you receive a new e-mail name it "newemail.wav". And finally for when someone comes online call it "online.wav". Now that we have our file names and formats correct we need to copy them to the Messenger directory. By default it's "c:/program files/messenger" but when you installed Msn Messenger you may have specified differently. Now copy the sound files into the messenger directory. When prompted to overwrite existing files select yes. And there you have it, new sounds for msn messenger.
