ANIMALS OF GOR

There are many varieties of animals on gor I have put together a list of the most wide known. How be it this list is far from complete.

Anteaters: There are several varieties of this creature that inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi, but the most notable is the Great Spined Anteater which obtains lengths of about 20 feet. It is harmless unless you cross its path or disturb it. With heavily clawed forefeet, it can club, slash, lacerate, and eviserate even a larl. When angered, it will utter a loud whistling sound. The anteaters feed on the multitudes of ants and termites of the rainforest. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Armoured Gatch: Aa marsupial mammal which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Black Squirrels: Inhabitant of the rainforest. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Vart: A blind, bat-like flying rodent, about the size of a small dog. "There were several other creatures in the cases but I am not sure of their classification. I could, however, recognize a row of brown varts, clinging upside down like large matted fists of teeth and fur and leather on the heavy, bare, scarred branch in their case. I saw bones, perhaps human bones, in the bottom of their case." Excerpt from Priest-Kings of Gor, 191. The Jungle Vart is a relative of the northern vart, and inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. The Jungle Vart is mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Giani: This is a small Earth-cat-size panther, solitary in habits and not dangerous to man, which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Guernon Monkey: A simian of the rainforests inland of Schendi. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Hith: A huge python-like snake.
Hurt: A kangaroo-like animal whose wool is used for cloth.
Zeder: A small, carnivorous mammal, resembling the sleen, which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi; grows to 2' and weighs 8-10 lbs; is diurnal, can swim very well, and builds a stick-and-mud nest in the branches of a tree, where it spends the night. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Fleer: A large, hook-billed bird which hunts at night. The Prairie Fleer is a yellow bird with long wings and a sharp bill; sometimes called the "maize bird" or "corn bird" from the belief that it is usually the first bird to find food. Mentioned in Savages of Gor and Blood Brothers of Gor.
Leem: A small arctic rodent, five to ten ounces in weight, which hybernates in the winter. Its furs are sold by the Red Hunters. Mentioned in Beasts of Gor.
Ost: A tiny snake, about 12" long, bright orange in color; its venom causes extremely painful death within seconds; the ost of the rainforests inland of Schendi are red with black stripes. Both are mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Fruit Tindel: A bird which inhabits the rainforests of the Schendi area. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Qualae: This is a small, tan colored, tri-toed mammal with a stiff, brushy mane of black hair.
Rock Tharlarion: Not a true Tharlarion, this is a small reptile of the Tahari. Mentioned in Tribesmen of Gor.
Slee: This is a rodent which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi
Gant: There are two varieties of this bird. The jungle gant is a bird, which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi; the marsh gant is a long-legged marsh bird with a piping cry, similar to an Earth curlew (sandpiper). Mentioned in Explorers of Gor
Snow Lart: A mammalian animal with two-stomachs, four legs, approximately 10" high, and weighs between 8-12 lbs. It hunts in the sun. The food in the second stomach can be held almost indefinitely. It is filled in the fall and lasts the lart through the winter night, which lasts months. It eats bird's legs and preys on the leem. Mentioned in Beasts of Gor.
Taarsiers: Large, swift beasts, at the shoulders, and up to forty hands tall. Warm blooded reptiles, they are used in battle and a smaller bred cousin as draft animals on Gor.
Gim: There are three varieties of this bird. The horned gim is a small owl-like bird, approximately 4 ozs. in weight, which inhabits the forests of northern Gor. The long gim is an insectivorous bird which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. Lastly, the yellow gim is a colored variety of the bird, which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. Gort, Hook-billed: A carnivorous hunting bird of the rainforests inland of Schendi; preys on ground urts. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Tharlarion:

Tharlarion
One of several types of large, often carnivorous reptiles, some of which are domesticated; it's fat is rendered to provide lamp oil. They do not make playful pets, although there are species that have been domesticated. The broad tharlarion, is a sluggish, herbivorous tharlarion used as draft animals. The high tharlarion, high is very agile and used as a mount for riding. They have very short, almost useless, forelegs and are carnivorous. The saddle tharlarion, the common mount of the Alars (mentioned in Mercenaries of Gor, 45) is a medium-weighted beast, smaller and less powerful, but swifter and more agile than the high tharlarion. The river tharlarion is an extremely large, herbivorous, web-footed lizards. Also see Tarnsman of Gor 83-84, 115.
Ul: A gigantic toothed winged lizard, carnivorous.
Grub Borer: This is an insectivorous bird which inhabits the rainforests inland of Schendi. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Herlit: The Gorean eagle, which has a wingspan of 6-8 feet; is carnivorous, and has yellow feathers tipped with black; also called "Sun-Striker" or "out-of-the-sun-it-strikes," from its habit of striking with the sun above. and behind it; inhabits the Barrens. Mentioned in Savages of Gor and Blood Brothers of Gor.
Jard: A small, yellow-winged scavenger bird of the rainforest inland of Schendi. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Lit: This is a bird found in the rainforests of the Schendi area; variant the Crested Lit. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Mindar: A short-winged, yellow and red bird of the rainforests inland of Schendi; with its sharp bill, it digs in the bark of flower trees for larvae and bugs. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Tarn: A large, crested, sable-colored bird, similar-looking to that of an Earth hawk; these birds are raised and trained to be ridden; used in battle and in racing. The war tarn is the largest of the tarns, and are shod in metal. The racing tarns are smaller to enable them to fly at great speeds and maneuverability. See "The Tarn" here.
Wader: There are two varieties of this waterbird which inhabits the rivers of the rainforests inland of Schendi. These are the ring-necked and the yellow-legged. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Zad: A large, broad-winged, black-and-white bird with a long, narrow, yellowish, hooked beak, found in the Tahari; they scavenge on carrion. The Jungle Zad is the somewhat less-aggressive cousin of the Tahari Zad and found in the rainforest inland of Schendi. Both species has the ugly habit of tearing out the eyes of weakened victims. This guarantees that the victim will die. The Jungle Zad is mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Zadit: A small, tawny-feathered, sharp-billed bird of the Tahari; insectivorous, feeding on sand flies and other similar insects; they often land on kaiila and spend long periods hunting the sand flies that infest the host animals
Bint: A fanged, carnivorous marsh eel which inhabits the rivers of the rainforests inland of Schendi. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Dock Eel: A black freshwater fish, 4' long and weighing 8-10 lbs.; carnivorous, they inhabit the shallow waters around the dock and wharves of river ports.
Gint: A small freshwater fish which inhabits the rivers of the rainforests inland of Schendi; it has bulbous eyes and flipper-like fins; is amphibious, having both lungs and gills; is capable of walking on its pectoral fins; is often found in the company of tharlarion, feeding off the scraps of their kills. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor. The Giant Gint is a large cousin of the small fish, and is found in western Gor, similar in appearance, but with a 4-spined dorsal fin; is also amphibious and capable of walking on its pectoral fins.
Grunt: There are two varieties of this fish. One is the large, carnivorous, salt-water fish which inhabits Thassa; is often attracted by the blood of a wounded creature; similar to the shark of Earth; and the blue variety, which is a small, voracious, carnivorous freshwater fish, found in the Schendi rainforests, and like its larger cousin, is attracted by blood. The blue gint is mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Lelt: A small blind fish (5-7") with fernlike filaments at either side of the head which are its sensory organs; white with long fins, it swims slowly, and is the main food of the salt shark; inhabits the brine pits such as those at Klima in the Tahari. Mentioned in Tribesmen of Gor.
Mamba: A large, predatory river tharlarion which inhabits the rivers of the rainforests inland of Schendi; they havelong, log-like bodies, with short, powerful legs and a long snout and tail. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
River Shark: A narrow, black, vicious, carnivorous fish with a triangular dorsal fin, which inhabits the rivers of Gor.
Salt shark: A long-bodied (12' or more) carnivorous fish having gills situated under the jaw, several rows of triangular teeth, a sickle-like tail, and a sail-like dorsal fin; inhabits brine pits such as those of the Tahari. Mentioned in Tribesmen of Gor.
Sorp: This is a shellfish, common in the Vosk river, similar to an oyster; like an oyster, it manufactures pearls.
Whales: There are many types of whales on Gor, most notably, the Hunjer whale of the arctic north, a very large, black colored, toothed whale. The Red Hunters use these whales for food, oil and skins. Mentioned in Beasts of Gor.
Wingfish: A tiny blue salt-water fish with four poisonous spines on its dorsal fin; found in the waters off Port Kar; its liver is considered a delicacy in Turia. Mentioned in Nomads of Gor.

Centipedes: A very large insect, roughly the size of a rhinoceros, with luminous eyes, two mulipli-hooked, tubular, hollow, pincer-like extensions that meet at the tips, approximately one yard beyond their body, and short antennae. They live in the caverns below the Nest of the Priest-Kings in the Sardar Mountains; they emit a narcotic odor which hypnotizes the Priest Kings, allowing the beetle to kill and devour them. Hinti: These are small, flea-like insects; unlike fleas, they are not parasites.
Marchers: Ants of the rainforests inland of Schendi. These jungle ants literally "march" at various periods in search of food, devouring everything in its path, including humans. Mentioned in Explorers of Gor.
Needle Flies: Originate in the delta and similar geographical areas. It's sting is extremely painful, but it is usually not dangerous, unless inflicted in great numbers.
Rennels: Poisonous, crab-like insects
Rock Spider: Found in the rainforests inland of Schendi, these spiders get their name as they tuck their legs beneath them, thus resembling a rock. These insects are brown and black in color, globular and approximately 8 feet in thickness. Even humans have accidentally fallen into their large webs becoming a tasty meal for the insect. Scorpions: Mentioned in Explorers of Gor,313.
Slime worm: A long, slow, blind worm which inhabits the caverns below the Nest in the Sardar; scavenges the remains of the Golden Beetles kills. Priest-Kings of Gor, 105-106.
Termites: Mentioned in Explorers of Gor, 313.
Tibit: A small, thin-legged bird which lives on tiny mollusks found on the shores of Thassa.
Toos: A crab-like organism with overlapping plating; inhabits the Nest and scavenges on discarded fungus spores.
Zarlit Fly: The zarlit fly is very large, about two feet long, with four large, translucent wings, with a span of about a yard. It has large, pad-like feet on which, when it alights, it can rest on the water, or pick its way delicately across the surface. Most of them are purple. Their appearance is rather formidable and can give one a nasty turn in the delta, but happily, one soon learns they are harmless, at least to humans. Vagabonds of Gor, 160
