THE WORLD OF GOR
The planet of Gor is a spheroid, shaped like a rounded, inverted top. It is heavier in the southern hemisphere. It is smaller than the Earth and has less gravity and is closer to the Sun. Thus, the Sun looks a fraction larger from Gor. Its angle of its axis is somewhat sharper than Earth. It has two polar regions and an equatorial belt. It is in the same plane of orbit as Earth and maintains an orbit that keeps the Sun between the two planets. Gor's temperatures tend to be somewhat fiercer than those of Earth. This may be due to its large land masses as Gor has more land area than Earth. The air of Gor is also far cleaner than Earth, free of industrial toxins and pollutants.
Gor has three moons, a large one and two small ones, white and swift moons. One small moon is called the Prison Moon. There is no explanation given for the origin of its name. The other two moons are not named. Gor is also known as the Counterearth..
On maps of Gor, most of the planet is blank and unexplored. Gor is sparsely inhabited by humans but teeming with animal life. Few know the lands east of the Voltai and Thentis ranges or what lies west of the islands of Cos and Tyros. Ships do not go a hundred pasangs west of Cos and Tyros as it is known as the world's end. No one has sailed there and returned. The single known ocean is known as Thassa. Even large areas above Schendi, south of the Vosk and West of Ar, are largely unknown. |
WHAT IS GOR?
| Simply, Gor is a fictitious planet that is in the same orbit as Earth, but on the opposite side of the Sun. It is a barbaric world, ruled by steel and concerned with honor. It is a male dominated world where slavery is an ancient and universally accepted institution. There are restrictions on many forms of technology but in a few limited areas their technology far surpasses Earth technology. For example, Gor has found a cure for aging. This cure would be priceless on Earth. Many aspects of Gorean culture were inspired by Earth cultures such as ancient Greece and Rome, the Vikings, Mongols and Inuit. |
