Complaints about IBM

I wish to bring to your attention that I personally feel that I have been abused by IBM.

MY STORY GOES LIKE THIS;

On Matriculation day, I have applied for IBM A20P(050700). I was told that I could collect the notebook two weeks from the date of order. I order the Notebook because of the loan that NUS is giving as I come form from the lower income group. Two weeks went by and I never received any news from them. In fact I waited for about six weeks before IBM made an announcement that they had some problems with their shipment. Ok fair enough. Thus for those who ordered A20P were encouraged to changed thier order to another model. I went down to NUS COP and talk to IBM staff and THEY advise me to changed my order. Thus I changed from a A20P to T20. And till today I have yet to receive any news from them. ( when I ordered the A20P my que up number was 150 and when I changed my model to T20 my que number is 539) I was even told that the shipment for A20P will only come in December wherelse T20 will come early Sept. Thus with the term paper to hand in and the need for a computer I deciced to change my model. However I was very shocked and disgusted when i found out that my friend who ordered A20P and whose que number is 159 got his computer. I felt totaly devastated because I need the notebook badly cos I live in Hougang which is abt 1 and half hour form NUS. I have to come back even during the holidays to use the computer in sch.

I feel that IBM is the unbecoming of a business company.

When I ordered the T20, the pentuim 700 was the "IN" model, now it is not the latest and not the fastest. I have lost my present comsumption and at the same time cause many inconviniences. Not only that the list of appendix A tha IBMt give us (the students) as a form of compensation is merely eating our money up. You can see from the appendix (Attached) that many of the items they offer are more than 200 dollars. They are not sincerely compensation us but witha motive of making more money.

Thus I really hope that NUS will choose a vendor with some form of responsibility and not those who just offer the cheapest price. Students today also value services too. We need to be updated and not allow this type of company to take advantage of us.

In addtition if IBM is able to give such a good offer, then I believe that they should also have stocks. I feel that this is one of their publicity stunts that they employ to attract customers. I sincerely hope that someone in the higher authority will take action and find some form of justice for students like me.

Thank you. Below is appendix 1.

Dear Mohammed

Computer Centre is fully aware of the tremendous inconveniences caused to students as a result of the delay in notebook delivery by ECSS/IBM for their A20p and T20 models for the past two months. Pressure has been put to ECSS/IBM to expedite shipments and to compensate customers for the unreasonable delivery delays.

For your situation, I have instructed the NUS Co-Op to reserve 1 unit of the A20p for your immediate collection. Your queue of the T20 will be void upon your collection of the A20p. Please proceed to Level 3, old Administration Building and look for Mr Pang - the Manager, for your collection.

This e-mail serves as a Letter of Authorisation for your A20p collection.

Regards,

Chew-Goh Swee Wah (Mrs)
