Chatting with Harry Oldfield

Harry is the co-author of "The Dark Side of the Brain" (published by Element Books, U.K.) and inventor of Electro-Crystal Therapy and Polycontrast Interface Photography (PIP). He is a fully qualified homeopath and Founder and Principal of the School of Electro-Crystal Therapy in England. His work has been featured in The Lancet, The British Medical Journal, Medical News Weekly, The Journal of Alternative and Complimentary Medicine and The Times, Guardian, Independent and Daily Mail Newspapers. He has also made a number of television appearances.

Mr Wee Boo Kuan of Valerie Physiotherapy Centre Pte Ltd brought Mr Harry Oldfield to Singapore in August to introduce his discovery to Singaporeans. Sintercom talks to both of them about this unusual invention.

S: Since all this is so new for Singaporeans, could one of you please help us quickly understand what PIP is all about?

B: When we look at religious iconography across many cultures, we often see this white yellow or golden ring or halo above the head of saints, gods and goddesses. Then there are clairvoyants and psychics who can see colours and auras around people and make inferences to the state of well being of the person. Is there an objective reality behind all of this? Do we need special abilities to develop such psychic vision? Now, thanks to the research work and ingenuity of scientist Dr Harry Oldfield, one does not need to spend 20 years of their lifetime meditating in a secluded mountain spot to attain special prowess to see these energy patterns and colours. We have now for the first time in the world, a unique technology which allows anyone to see these energies in real time without having to be subjected to artificially high made-made fields or X-rays.

This revolutionary method is called Polycontrast Interface Photography (PIP) The image of the patient is seen through a video camera, linked to a digitizer (an interface device which converts analog signals from the video and converts them to digital signals for the computer) and thereafter processed by a computer to give instant energy patterns around and within the patient. Energy disturbances or blockages if any, can then be addressed using Electro-Crystal Therapy (ECT). These techniques have been in use for over 20 years and have proven to have beneficial effects on children, patients, plants and animals.

S: What in layman's terms are Electro-Crystal Therapy (ECT) and Polycontrast Interface Photography (PIP)?

H: ECT is a method of diagnostic assessment and treatment of energy imbalances whereby weak electro-magnetic fields from a battery operated unit are combined with crystals to make them vibrate. These vibrations are found to be over 20 years of research and clinical work useful for healing processes in the human body, plants and animals.

PIP is a way of looking at photon (light) interferences and its changes around and from the human body through specially developed computer software. These minute changes, normally invisible to the naked eye are picked up, processed and analyzed through the computer to show energy patterns around and within the human body. These photons are affected by energies emanating from the human body and the surrounding environmental energies. The colours and patterns seen seemed to correspond to what mystics and psychics describe and see.

S: Who are using these techniques? How accurate are they? Can someone do it at home?

H: Researchers, therapists, scientists and medical doctors are using these techniques in their own clinics and for private research.

These techniques are very accurate in matching physical, mental and emotional stresses arising from the stresses found in the environment and their effects on people and living systems.

Indeed these techniques are safe and are used in homes. There are training courses for interested lay people as well as for practitioners. A typical training programme for practitioners will include four weekend courses, two days clinical practice with me and there will be a final exam for Diploma certification. Our programme is recognized by the Institute of Complimentary Medicine, Europe and there are certain standards required and set down by the Institute which have to be met before any certification by our School.

S: What is the story behind your invention of these techniques? How did you come to these ideas? How has these findings change your perspective of the world?

H: PIP came about from my research into Kirlian Photography which allows the invisible world of energies of plants and humans to be captured on film. Then I captured energy pictures of crystals and found similarities between living animate systems and these seemingly inanimate objects. Crystals do emit energies and some of these are beneficial and compatible with other living systems. This is evidenced in the video footage on crystal entities and their interactions with their healer owner which I showed during my talk.

Then there was the observation of the phantom leaf effect which intrigued me and spurred me on for further research. A actual leaf was cut and if we were to take a Kirlian photograph of it immediately, we can still see the energy emanations of a uncut leaf. It is interesting to note that if the plant had used any chemical fertilizers for its growth then we do not observe the phantom leaf effect. After making these observations, there were followed by many years of research and careful experimentation before developing ECT and PIP.

All these findings have made me adopt a different perspective about the world we live in. Man is far greater than the sum of his parts. He is an energy being who lives in a sea of energies within this universe of energy. Indeed everything, animate or inanimate is interconnected with everything else.

S: How did the medical community receive your inventions?

H: As a group the medical community is skeptical. They are by nature traditional and methodical. Therefore I look forward to the time when double blind clinical trials can be conducted to prove in a scientific manner that our system has real physical effects on disease and disturbances in medicine.

S: What do you plan to do with these techniques? Are they patented? Do you have future plans for these techniques?

H: These techniques are offered to open-minded and inquiring individuals both from a medical scientific or alternative medical background. This is to enable them to show objectively the effects of their therapy or experiments and to give pictorial feedback to their patients as changes occur. I foresee industrial applications of PIP in the future. One fellow scientist commented that PIP is at a stage similar to the time when the microscope was first discovered two hundred years ago- it is an interesting discovery but we still do not know what to do with it. As we all know microscopes are commonly used in many applications, both medical and industrial.

These techniques are not patented. Instead my orientation would be in education, publishing and making available this knowledge to as many people as possible. The software and materials are copy-righted while copy-right for the hardware is still pending.

Well the future. I hope to do more research and development work over clinical practice. I would like to delegate clinic work to my proficient colleagues and move towards front line research and investigations. Some possible areas which I may be involved: (1) visiting crystal mines to look for larger crystal entities; (2) developing telescopic capabilities for astronomers; (3) expanding and incorporating PIP into darkfield and microscopy research; (4) working on environmentally friendly technologies e.g. plastic degradation with natural means; technologies to deal with radioactive wastes and radioactive coolants used in the nuclear industries. I am also hoping to work with a psychology department in one of the universities in Greece doing psychological and parapsychological projects into the human psyche.

S: What is your experience in Singapore? Did you notice any difference in the energy patterns between Singapore and English patients?

H: We had a wonderful experience in Singapore meeting open-minded people and enjoying the different varieties of food! My experience was revitalizing so the energy of the food and company I had must be good. This also confirmed observations I made years ago that stir-fried and freshly steamed traditional Chinese dishes had the highest energies compared to food which is deep-fried and deep oven-baked.

There is little difference in energy patterns between patients I saw here and patients from the UK. There were increased allergy disturbances in children and definitely stress related patterns. However there seems to be relatively low incidence of people suffering from MS (Multiple Sclerosis) here in Singapore.

S: And Boo Kuan, you have quite an unusual interest. How did you come to be interested in alternative medicine?

B: I have always been interested in Health and Healing. After working for a number of years at a physiotherapy centre, I realized that many physical chronic problems have contributing factors and causes in other non-physical realms. For example, our patients with emotional issues to deal with tend to experience a flare up in their low back problems. In such cases, therapy only can help relief the symptoms. This made me realize that traditional medicine where mind and body are treated separately have its limitations and I became interested in alternative medicines that have a more holistic approach.

My interest in alternative medicine grew after my father was diagnosed with cancer some years back and traditional treatment such as chemotherapy could not cure him.

S: How did you find out about Harry Oldfield?

B: I tried to get my hands on as many researchers' work in alternative medicine as possible, especially topics such as human energy fields and auras. I first came across Harry's work in his book "The Dark Side of the Brain" published by Element Books, UK which he co-authored with Roger Coghill. I contacted him and we soon became friends.

What really attracted me to Harry's work is his totally unique system of mapping and seeing these energy fields and the non-intrusive nature of his method. I was so impressed that three years ago, I went to England to learn directly from him.

S: Have you been applying what he learned in his course in Singapore? What are your own results?

B: Yes, and we have been pleased with the results of electro-crystal therapy on our patients and ourselves. We have had good results using ECT for sore-throats, common cold, headaches and calming from daily stress among many other imbalances.

S: What made you decide to bring him to Singapore?

B: We have surveyed and studied many techniques and therapies (from radionics, Bioresonance therapies like EAV, Vega, Bicom, Sherry Edwards and Signature Sound Works and other vibrational approaches) working on the subtle energies and I must say that overall we are most pleased with Harry's techniques and methods. To allow our patients to consult with Harry and for Harry to do a public lecture to increase the awareness of this topic among the people here; and to further our knowledge in interpreting the patterns seen on PIP. A lecture was held on 16 Aug 1997 at the Grand Plaza Hotel Ballroom where rare video footage of crystal entities was screened to the audience. Energy patterns of various medical conditions and healers were also shown together with live demonstration of some of Harry's technique from volunteers.

S: What are your plans after this?

B: We have had quite a number of patients coming to us as a result of the lecture and we will definitely be using the techniques more extensively in our centre after this. We may consider doing presentations to smaller groups of people interested in this field.
