RED NECK WRECKING CREW - LANCE CADE & TREVOR MURDOCH
The camera picture slowly fades up, showing what would appear to be a
standard backstage corridor, complete with the usual staff milling
around and production equipment scattered here and there. We can hear
raised voices coming from just around the corner and some of production
workers begin to take notice of what sounds like a heated exchange. The
camera rounds the corner to show none other than Jim Cornette berating a
young member of staff for some reason or other. Cornette is in full flow
and the hapless member of the production crew looks rather worried by
the ominous presence of Trevor Murdoch and Lance Cade who are standing
directly behind Cornette. The camera moves closer towards Cornette as we
listen in on his rant.
Jim
Cornette:
'
When Jim Cornette walks past, you show him some respect. You don't ignore
me and you sure as hell don't try and barge past me. That doesn't even
take respect, all that takes is common courtesy... but I suppose that's
too much to ask, huh? '
It would seem that this particular rant is over something pretty
trivial. None the less Cornette is as rapid and ferocious as ever with the
poor production worker now all but cowering as he looks for any way out of
the situation.
Jim
Cornette:
'
At the very least I expect you to acknowledge my existence, you don't just
ignore one of the most successful wrestling managers of all time.
After all I've only been in this business a good twenty-five odd years,
that long enough to merit your recognition, son? Is that long enough to
have earned me your respect? '
The
young production assistant attempts to reply but only manages a mumble
as Cornette roars on. Cade and Murdoch simply watch on with Lance Cade
clearly smirking as the young worker continues to squirm.
Jim
Cornette:
'
Next time I walk along past, you'd better stand aside and show a tiny bit
of appreciation for the fact that you get share a corridor with a
man like myself. I'm hardly asking you to bow at my feet, all I want is
the respect that I'm due... it's really not too much to ask. Now you
got all that, boy? I sincerely hope you understand me, 'cause I'm
going to be around the CEW quite a bit from now on and I don't expect
hassle off every wet behind the ears production lackey that happens to
cross my path. '
Cornette's tirade comes to an end but he pauses, giving the production
worker a long stare, before moving off down the corridor. Lance Cade gives
the young man a firm slap on the back as he walks off chuckling slightly.
Trevor Murdoch simply grimaces and glares at the worker as he too follows
on. The trio of Cornette, Cade and Murdoch have a confidence about them as
they stroll around, they hold their heads high while looking down on the
other CEW personnel scattered around. They walk and talk as the camera
watches on.
Lance Cade:
'
Did you see the look on that poor boy's face... Haha, priceless. '
Jim
Cornette:
'
Well you've got to put these people in their place, they need to know that
they're below you. You've every right to walk all over them, it's how you
earn respect in this business. '
Lance Cade:
'
We'll see if any of these folks are still disrespecting us after tonight
and after we beat the New Age Outlaws. '
Trevor Murdoch let's out a grunt of agreement, causing Cornette and Cade
to look around at him. Murdoch apparently fails to notice and lies back
against the corridor wall, beginning to chew away on something. Slowly
raising his eyes Murdoch notices the stares of Cornette and Cade, he
quickly straightens himself up and spits what looks like chewing tobacco
out from his mouth.
Lance Cade:
'
Damn... you know that's just a nasty habit. '
Jim
Cornette:
'
Too right it is, I mean d'you want folks calling you a dirty redneck,
white-trash and all that, just you sure are asking for it. '
Trevor
Murdoch:
'
They can try calling me it if they want, but they'd best not call me it to
my face. '
Cornette simply rolls his eyes and turns around while Murdoch slumps back
up against the wall. Upon turning around Cornette glimpses the CEW
cameraman that's been filming, he quickly springs forwards calling over to
the cameraman.
Jim
Cornette:
'
Well look here, we've got the perfect opportunity to introduce ourselves
to everybody in Cutting Edge Wrestling. Get that camera on me, boy. '
The cameraman approaches and centres on Cornette who attempts to
position himself directly in front of the camera with the corridor wall as
his backdrop. He then motions to Cade and Murdoch who move over to stand
by Cornette's side, Murdoch growling away on the left and Cade smirking on
the right. Cornette checks everything looks presentable before firing away
with his promo.
Jim
Cornette:
'
Cutting Edge Wrestling let me introduce to you two of the finest
professional wrestlers I have ever set eyes upon. Coming from the former
manager of the Midnight Express that alone is quite a statement, but I
would actually go further. I would say that the men to my side are the
future of this promotion and quite possibly the future of professional
wrestling. I know that is quite some introduction and quite a billing, but
these boys are more than capable of living up to it. '
It's all coming naturally to Cornette as he rifles through his
introduction and quickens the pace of his speech even further.
Jim
Cornette:
'
The man to my right, Lance Cade, has without a doubt one of the top
physiques in wrestling today. Standing six feet, five inches tall and
weighing in at two hundred and ninety pounds, he has a body that men all
across the country crave. The physique and the look maybe be impressive
but let me assure you that they are mere representations of the true power
that Lance Cade possess. He is one hell of an athlete, believe me. On his
own Lance Cade is as I said, mighty impressive, but pair him up with the
man to my left, Trevor Murdoch, and boy do you have one special
combination. Trevor Murdoch might not be win any beauty pageants but since
when did that matter in professional wrestling. All that matters is that
you sure don't want to get on the wrong side of Trevor Murdoch. I mean
look into the man's eyes, is he the sort of man you want to piss off, is
he the sort of man you want getting in your face, huh? I don't think so,
unless your quite happy getting your sorry ass beaten black and blue. You
put Trevor Murdoch and Lance Cade together and you've got an untouchable
tag-team, a real force to be reckoned with. '
The smirk on Lance Cade's face is noticeably wider following Cornette's
introduction. Murdoch on the other hand is continue to grimace and looks
as camera friendly as ever. Cornette himself just nods his head and
resumes speaking.
Jim
Cornette:
'
To some people Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch aren't quite their idea of a
modern tag-team. Some people seem to think they don't fit into today's
world of wrestling, maybe they don't have a fancy enough entrance music or
maybe they don't fly around the ring enough. To those people I say two
words... too bad. You see you're damn right, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch
don't fit in today, they're just too far ahead of everybody else in this
industry. They're a throwback to real tag-teams from decades ago, the
likes of Crusher and Bruiser, the Blackjacks and The Texas Outlaws, those
were teams that got the job done. They smacked guys about in the ring and
took pleasure out of it, they got a kick out of it. That's how I like my
wrestling, but these days all I see are pretty boys straight out of some
developmental school and they're getting given big chances straight off
the bat. Trevor Murdoch broke in through a New Japan Dojo and a stint with
the legendary Harley Race and Lance Cade was one of first graduates of
Shawn Michaels wrestling academy. Now that's how you get into this
business. Since then they've been on the road and they've had to earn
opportunities, they've been forced to work their way to the top. You just
don't get all that much help these days if you don't have your own fancy
little gimmick. '
Cornette
appears to getting more heated and more intense as he goes along. He
certainly doesn't sound too pleased with the state of wrestling business
these days.
Jim
Cornette:
'
I suppose myself, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch don't fit in here either.
I frankly admit that Cade and Murdoch are not cutting edge, they're not
fresh, they're not new... they're just good at what they do. At least
though they've been given a shot, an opportunity, to prove to Cutting Edge
Wrestling that you don't need to be 'cutting edge' to be successful. You
see right here tonight, on Exile in San Antonio Texas, the team of Lance
Cade and Trevor Murdoch will be in action in a tag-team qualifier with the
chance of a shot at the gold come the very first CEW pay-per-view event.
They'll show everybody that they really are all that I claim. They're
going out tonight for the competition and for the fight, not for the fans
or the appreciation. That approach might not sit well with the crowd, it
might not sit well with management but that isn't a concern, that's not
anything to worry about. Cade and Murdoch are only concerned with picking
up a victory tonight and breaking a few bodies along the way. I guess it's
an especially sweet night tonight, given how they can make a statement and
stake a claim to the tag-titles. That's only an added bonus to the thrill
of kicking the crap out of another couple of guys. '
Lance
Cade rubs his hands together at the thought of his match-up tonight, even
Murdoch's expression changes as he noticeably grits his teeth and clenches
his fists. Cornette smiles slightly before roaring on.
Jim
Cornette:
'
Tonight the poor souls set to take on my boys are none other the New Age
Outlaws, or The James Gang, Voodoo Kin Mafia... I forget what they're
calling themselves these days. But as the old saying goes a leopard can't
change it's spots and no matter what they call themselves those guys can't
help but stink in the ring. Over the years not a lot has changed about
them, sure they once had HHH to help them win the odd tag-team
championship, but they've never been anything special. They've been more
concerned with messing about than actually doing a decent job in the ring.
They'd rather laugh and joke than wrestle... well unfortunately for them I
don't think they'll be doing much laughing when they come face to face
with Trevor Murdoch and Lance Cade. It's really just disappointing to see
the quality of opponent that my boys have to deal with. How the hell are
they supposed to make a statement by beating up those two clowns? Is that
the best competition we've got? '
Cornette
just shrugs his shoulders as Lance Cade pauses him and slowly moves
forward towards the camera ready to say his own little piece.
Lance Cade:
'
I want to have my say on this too, Jim. Those boys, the New Age Outlaws,
need to know first hand that I'm going out tonight with the intention of
humiliating them. If they want to take wrestling as a joke then they've
chosen the wrongs guys to mess around with. Me and Murdoch are all
business and if we have to slap the sense into them boys then so be it.
'
All of a
sudden Trevor Murdoch bursts forwards past Lance Cade and gets right in
the camera lens, shouting out his own thoughts as Cade struggles to
restrain him.
Trevor
Murdoch:
'
I'll enjoy putting my boot up their asses till they're begging me to stop,
that's why I'm in the wrestling business... not to joke around. I'll make
them squeal like he pigs they are... '
Cade
eventually pushes Murdoch back and calms him down slightly. Cade checks on
him once more before turning back to the camera and finishing what he was
saying.
Lance Cade:
'
Calm it down there, Murdoch. We all know that you just want to get in the
ring, everybody understands that. The Outlaws are in for a spot of trouble
tonight, that's for sure... we're headed out in only a few hours time and
we'll be letting everybody here in Cutting Edge Wrestling known that
there's new sheriffs in town. '
With a
smile and a wink Lance Cade stops talking and walks out of camera shot
with Jim Cornette moving a still raging Trevor Murdoch along behind. The
picture then slowly begins to fade out to a preview for Exile.
