Roleplay Number: 07 XWF Record: 02 - 03 - 00 Opponent: 'Old School' Steve Corino vs. CM Punk Event: Summerslam
The Old School Legacy: Old School Victims: Roleplay Title: " An Education in Wrestling " The scene opens with a close up on a television screen, it appears to be showing clips of many legends of wrestling ranging from Bruno Sammartino to Jerry 'The King' Lawler. The camera then zooms out and we see a shot of a locker room where Steve Corino and Jack Victory are standing watching the TV. Corino smirks and slicks back his hair before looking into the camera and speaking. 'OLD SCHOOL' STEVE CORINO: ' As you can see I've prepared a little bit of video footage, a nice compilation of some of the greatest wrestling matches of all time and clips of some of those few, truly legendary wrestlers that have graced the squared circle. Now believe it or not I've prepared this little video for my Summerslam opponent CM Punk. ' Corino begins to play around with the TV remote, trying it would seem to get the tape to a particular point. He then shakes his head before speaking again to the camera. 'OLD SCHOOL' STEVE CORINO: ' And by the way, I just can't find one bit of hardcore action or extreme wrestling on this whole tape. In fact, the only thing that you'll find on the tape is pure old school wrestling. Now of course featured on the tape are all the wrestling greats you could think of... there's Bruno Sammartino, Ricky Steamboat, The Iron Sheik, The Von Erichs, Bob Backlund, Nature Boy Buddy Rodgers, Harley Race... every great wrestler you could possibly think of is featured on this tape. And before you ask, yes, of course there's plenty of the King of Old School Steve Corino on there too. Now as well as all those classic wrestlers, there are some of wrestling's classic matches... you've got Ric Flair versus Ricky Steamboat at WrestleWar '89, Sammartino against Morales at the Shea Stadium in '72, Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania 3... all the greatest wrestling matches of all time are contained on this tape. I honestly don't think there's a better collection of wrestling on one tape anywhere else in the world. In fact, I think it's so good they should bring it out in the shops. Everybody should get their hands on this tape and educate themselves a little bit about professional wrestling. Although, seeing as I have only one copy I think it's only fair that it goes to the one kid who's most in need of an education in professional wrestling... and that one kid is of course CM Punk. ' Steve Corino pauses and then moves over to the TV. Corino places the TV remote atop the TV and moves away from it as it continues to play, now showing what looks like a classic Road Warriors tag match. Corino turns once more to the camera. 'OLD SCHOOL' STEVE CORINO: ' Now obviously I myself am extremely well educated in old school wrestling. I know everything about the men on that tape and I've practically got all those matches memorised. I mean after all they don't call me the King of Old School for nothing. However, I think I can now see where CM Punk has been going wrong. I don't know who trained him, or if he even got proper training, but from his actions last week it appears certain to me that he hasn't seen a damn second of old school wrestling in his entire life. Anybody who is even slightly educated in old school wrestling could tell you that it has certain traditions and one of them definitely isn't using steel chairs. Instead, the traditions of wrestling are those set forth by some of the toughest men this world has ever seen. Those men were fighters... but they fought with their fists and not with anything else and to them any man who uses a weapon simply isn't a man at all. Now I prescribe to that exact same way of thinking. I certainly don't prescribe to any new-age crap like that which comes out of CM Punk's mouth. ' Steve Corino laughs and is mimicked by Jack Victory, this causes Corino to pause as he turns and rolls his eyes at Jack Victory before resuming speaking. 'OLD SCHOOL' STEVE CORINO: ' All that I hear from CM Punk is how he's Straight Edge. He goes on about how he lives by some sort of weird philosophy that doesn't allow him to smoke, to drink or take drugs and basically it makes sure that he's one very sad, very boring young man. Now all the legends in the wrestling business and all the men on that tape would simply laugh in the face of CM Punk. To them having a beer or a smoke was there way of life and it didn't do any harm to them inside the ring. They were more than happy to even abuse themselves with the odd illegal substance but they did it because they knew that they would still be able to perform inside the ring... basically they were able to enjoy themselves outside of the ring but they were still able to be all business as soon as they stepped through the ropes. They simply had a little bit of control over their bodies and over their actions... they didn't need to limit themselves or restrict themselves. Sadly though CM Punk must not have that same sort of control... I couldn't tell you why, maybe he's just a recovering alcoholic or something. Still, for guys like myself, who do have a little bit of control, I don't see any problem with having a beer and I'm definitely not going to listen to a kid like CM Punk telling me to stop. You see I don't think his little Straight-Edge lifestyle gives him any advantage in the ring, he certainly hasn't proved that it's any advantage and somehow I don't think many people will be following his little lifestyle once they see him getting beaten once more at Summerslam. You know if CM Punk wants to embrace any sort of lifestyle he should follow my lead and embrace the old school lifestyle. Now that has got plenty of advantages. If he was to look up to myself and other old school legends he could learn so much and as you saw I've already prepared a tape for his education. It's a tape that could teach him so much about this business and it's a tape that he badly needs to watch, because without watching it I don't think there's any hope for CM Punk in the XWF. ' Corino pauses one more time and moves up close to the camera and begins talking as he seems very serious. 'OLD SCHOOL' STEVE CORINO: ' You know I'm offering a lifeline to CM Punk... a chance to save his career. If instead he turns his back on old school then he's going to learn the hard way that extreme, hardcore actions won't get you anywhere when you're in the ring with THE KING OF OLD SCHOOL. ' 'OLD SCHOOL BELIEVER' JACK VICTORY: ' I've been keeping quiet but I think it's time Steve... High Spot. ' Steve Corino and Jack Victory high spot and Corino smirks, staring
once more into the camera before it fades to a commercial for
Summerslam. |
