Prologue:
All
Pro-Wrestling has set itself high standards,
during a run of over six months it treated its many fans to some
excellent wrestling entertainment and now Vince McMahon must again
live up those high standards as he brings APW back. McMahon has a
very impressive roster of talent at his disposal and given his own
talents as a booker, as well as an entertainer, many people believe
that APW has great potential. The first APW event will be Sunday
Night Breakdown, on the 26th of March, and the card has a lot of
interesting match-ups but the headliner certainly stands out from
the crowd. The main event will see all of APW's superstars competing
in a Royal Rumble for the biggest prize around, the World
Heavyweight Championship. It's a difficult one to call and anything
could happen, one man though that might not be most peoples idea of
a likely champion is Above Average Mike Sanders. But to Sanders it
doesn't matter what other people think. He is, as ever, confident
that he can perform and cause a surprise and of course he's also
more than ready to label all his opponents below average. Sanders
will not only compete in the Royal Rumble but is also up against
Olympic Gold Medallist Kurt Angle. Both Angle and Sanders are
allowed company at ringside with Mark Jindrak in Sanders corner and
Shelton Benjamin backing up Angle, that's sure to add a new
dimension to things. Sanders may have spent some time away from the
ring but still looks in great shape and he knows that he's a threat
to the rest of the APW. Sanders has the strongest belief that he'll
handle Angle in the ring and he'll go on to take the World
Heavyweight Championship home. After all nobody is as Above Average
as Mike Sanders.
The APW logo fades
up and we see a corridor backstage at an APW event, we hear
footsteps as Mike Sanders rounds the corner, shortly followed by
Mark Jindrak. Mike is walking with his usual air of confidence as he
holds his head high. He turns his head and glances at the more
disgruntled looking Jindrak who is carrying a large sports bag as he
starts to speak.
ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
You know
the treatment I'm getting around here is way below average, having
to use the communal locker room. No personal room to myself, just
mixing with the rest of the people around here. I mean I have to
change around a group of big, ugly men... that's not my style.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
You
don't usually mind changing around me, Mike.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Well I figured I was pretty safe around you, you've never really
looked or anything right? I mean you never know about some of the
guys here.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Yeh, you never know... and don't worry Mike I've never looked,
never.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Not that I've got anything to hide
though, Mike Sanders is above average in every way, if you know what
I mean.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Okay, sure Mike. You keep telling yourself that.
Mike doesn't look best pleased at that comment but decides to let
it go and turns his head just as Jindrak drops the large sports bag
to the ground and leans back against the wall.
' AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Anyway Mike, I've been carrying this bag for ages and it weighs a
ton. Can't you take it, it is yours after all?
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Haha... you're moaning already. Why am I not surprised. Look, you're
here to help me out as a manager of sorts so it is kind of your job
to carry the bag, Jindrak. I can't bother with stuff like that I've
got Kurt Angle and a World
Heavyweight Championship Royal Rumble to prepare for.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Fine then, but only this time. I'm not going to just do whatever you
say, Mike. I'll take it just now but I'm not going to be your
lackey, I'm a wrestler myself remember. You're only getting away
with it because I know you're maybe a little rusty and not one
hundred percent.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Whoa! Wait two seconds, please do not tell me that you're saying I'm
rusty. I'm Mike Sanders, I'm above average, don't you
remember that. I don't get rusty... I'm in top condition and ready
for Breakdown. I'll be ready to show this place, the APW, that I've
got more talent in my little pinkie than the rest of the trash
around here have got in their entire bodies. I would've thought of
all the people around here you'd know what I'm capable of, you
should know I could take any of those below average chumps in the
Royal Rumble this Sunday.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Look, you know I think you're a great wrestler but you've been out
of the ring for a couple of years and there's some really fresh guys
around here. This might be a bigger challenge than you think.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Just because I've not been wrestling competitively somehow I've lost
it, is that what you're saying? Come on Jindrak, you know I've been
staying in shape and I'm still above average. I've always had the
attributes to go a long way in this business and now with an event
like the Royal Rumble I get my chance. I've got speed, power,
strength, agility... the whole package. You need to have it all for
an event like the Rumble. But, even more importantly, you need to
have mental strength to match your physical abilities. I'm not going
to lie down and take a beating, I've got the fight and will to
succeed. Now the simple fact is very few men, have the physical
abilities and mental strength that I posses. That's what sets me
apart from the rest, that's why I'm telling you I'll walk out of
Breakdown with the World
Heavyweight Championship around my waist.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Alright, Mike. You'll have to remind me to never, ever question your
awesome talent again.
Mike gives Jindrak an angry look as he grits his teeth following
Jindrak's clearly sarcastic comment. Mike tries to ignore the
comment and starts to walk on apparently unperturbed by their
argument. Jindrak picks up the sports bag and follows on behind Mike
who is now moving smoothly into his typically cocky walk.
Mike appears to be on his way to a locker room as he breezes by a
couple of APW crew members and some other backstage personnel. As
Mike passes by the men begin to mutter a few things, fortunately for
them doesn't Mike appear to pick up on one of their comments. Mike
looks over his shoulder at the men as he and Jindrak step around the
corner. Suddenly one man cries out "You suck Sanders, Angle's gonna
slaughter you". Mike slams his fist against the wall and Jindrak
holds onto him, stopping him from charging back round the corner.
Mike calms down a little as he composes himself and begins to vent
his anger.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Who
the hell do they think are? They think they can say something like
that to Mike Sanders? No way.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Calm down Mike, a few guys like that is no big deal. You can't let a
them get to you. Keep all your aggression for Sunday night and for
Kurt Angle.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
For once you might be right Jindrak. I almost got carried away there
and it's not like Mike Sanders to lose his cool. But at least that
lets me see what things are really like around here, below average
losers around every corner and as ever, it'll have to fall to me to
sort them all out, starting with Angle. Actually, now I think about
it, facing up to Angle seems like a nice opportunity because of all
the below average nobodies around here he's got an ego that
seriously needs deflating.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
I'm
not trying to stick up for the guy but remember he did win those
Olympic gold medals, that's something to be proud of.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
You're way off as usual, Jindrak. Firstly, how exactly could I
forget that Kurt Angle won a couple of gold medals at the Olympics?
The man never shuts up about it, but I don't understand why. You
know it actually isn't anything to be proud of, all he's done is
succeeded in amateur wrestling, is that really a special
achievement? In fact if I was a former amateur wrestler I wouldn't
want to remind people about it... Haha, its as clear as possible
that amateur wrestling is way below average.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Well I suppose there's a bit of a difference between it and what
we're used to, but I saw it on the TV once and it didn't look too
bad.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
I'm sure it looked just great to you... I've seen the positions
those amateur wrestlers get into. Their hands seem to go just about
everywhere and they end up all over each other. I'm not use to that
sort of contact with another man... in fact, it's making me a little
uneasy just talking about it. Amateur wrestling definitely isn't my
style of wrestling, they don't just lack talent but they end up too
close for comfort. It might well be Kurt Angle's style of wrestling
though, he's certainly not got talent and I've always wondered what
he gets up to with Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
Uh... sometimes you're plain homophobic, Mike.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Whoa, that's a pretty strong accusation to make! I might not swing
that way but, I've not got anything against gay guys, if it makes
them happy then that's fine with me. I'm just not sure if even the
love of Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin will be enough for Kurt
Angle after Breakdown.. Haha. Seriously though, you've got a job to
do as well, Jindrak. Shelton Benjamin is going to be at ringside
with Angle and you've got to watch out for him. Angle's the sort of
guy who'll need the odd dirty trick if he's even to come close to
beating me, as long as you stay alert you should be fine. I'm
trusting that even you'll be able to handle Shelton Benjamin.
'AVERAGE'
Mark Jindrak:
I
know the drill. Shelton's in a match earlier on and I'll be fresh.
I'll make sure he stays out of things, I guess if you can sort Angle
out I can sort out his little buddy.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Well I do hope so but with you I never feel totally sure. Still,
I'll concentrate on Angle because I figure I can have him out of the
way in a minute or two. That's means Benjamin won't have any time to
interfere and I'll have had a nice, little warm-up for the Royal
Rumble. I know Angle's a bit delusional about his chances so a
reality check might do him some good. It's about time that somebody
showed once and for all that Angle's just a glorified amateur and
all he should be congratulated on is stretching out a career in
wrestling, just from winning those measly gold medals. I mean I've
seen Angle enough times in the ring to say that there's no way he
gets by on his actual abilities. He should just be getting a little
worried that I'm going to expose him at Breakdown, because he won't
be up against some below average amateur, he's stepping up to a
whole different class. He's up against a true professional, with
real ability and I'll be more than happy to show him why they call
me above average.
Mike pauses for a moment, taking a deep breath. Jindrak then
attempts to say something but Mike quickly cuts him off and goes
back into his own speech.
'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
Kurt Angle simple won't be a problem on Sunday night, it's a forgone
conclusion, I'm walking away with the win. But, I'll admit the Royal
Rumble could be a challenge, I know I can go toe to toe with anyone
in the APW but, with something like the Rumble things don't always
go as planned. It's not that I'm worried about my opponents.. Haha,
is anybody ever worried about the likes of Perry Saturn or Gene
Snitsky? There's certainly plenty of guys I'll be able to
comfortably handle, that is seeing as they're due for retirement.
Guys like Bret Hart, Ric Flair, Sting and The Ultimate Warrior were
past it ten years ago, so I can only think that they're here to make
up the numbers. I'm more worried about the cheats around here, I
don't trust people to play things fair and square. I know that when
there's a major threat like Mike Sanders in the Rumble people are
going to go after me, they'll double team and damn it, they'll
probably triple team... that's the only way they'll have the
slightest chance of eliminating me. Even if they do come at me three
at a time I've got that edge, that something special, which means
I'll be able to fight them off. You see I'm above average and
considering how pathetically below average the rest of the guys in
the Rumble are I'll be able to take plenty of them at the one time.
I might not have been around for a little while but if people need a
reminder of what I can do they'll get one on Sunday night. Kurt
Angle is going to be an excellent start to the clearout of below
average chumps and who knows how many more will follow him during
the Royal Rumble. Unfortunately for Angle and the rest of the APW
they're up against Mike Sanders, a man whose better than the rest, a
man who's above average and that's means that come Breakdown Mike
Sanders is walking away with the World Heavyweight Championship and
the rest of the APW is going be,

'ABOVE AVERAGE'
Mike Sanders:
And you know what that means... Ha! Ha! Ha!
Mike keeps on smiling as he reaches into his pockets and produces a
pair of dark sunglasses. As Mike flicks them over his eyes and
starts to walk off the shot fades away and is replaced by the APW
logo.
