Crash and Burn: Tag-Team Championship match.
Mike Sanders and Ken Kennedy (c) versus Edge and Christian.

MIKE SANDERS

ABOVE AVERAGE

B
reakdown, the 4th of May 2006... Shawn attacked Jindrak's knee with a steel chair, injuring him further... Edge manages the C-O-D on Mike Sanders the last man, to pick up the victory for his team... " No Chance " hits and out strutting onto the entrance ramp comes Vince McMahon, looking furious... " Mike Sanders, I don't care if you don't have a partner, FIND ONE.. cause at Crash and Burn, it'll be Mike Sanders and a partner of his choice versus Edge and Christian FOR THE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS!! "

Last Thursday's Breakdown was a bad night for Mike Sanders to say the least. He's forced into putting the tag-team titles on the line against Edge and Christian in one week's time at Crash & Burn... and that's without a partner following a serious injury to Mark Jindrak. Such an injury might bring Jindrak down to size a little but it's not exactly the best timing. Now Mike Sanders is left to find a new partner, and finding a man fit enough to stand in Mike's corner will not be an easy task, especially in APW. It's clear that Mike has been dealt a cruel hand and he's got very few options open to him. Does he go all in and take a risk by walking out to the ring with a new partner or does he effectively fold, handing the titles to Edge and Christian by going up against them two on one? It's a tough decision to make and it's only compounded by the humiliation of losing at Breakdown and being the man pinned by Edge. For once it would appear that Mike may have every right to be angry but if he's to keep a hold of the tag-team titles he'll have to keep cool, calm and collected. He needs to concentrate on proving that he deserves to be an APW champion and showing Edge and Christian that they made a mistake in ever daring to challenge for the titles. Even with all the odds stacked against him Mike should be able to keep a hold of his tag-team gold.. after all he's above average Mike Sanders... surely he can cope with Edge and Christian,

The APW logo fades up as the camera shows a dark, moonlit sky before moving down to show the ambulance bay of County General Hospital, where a paramedic rushes around to the sides of an ambulance and opens the back door. We see what looks like an unconscious Mark Jindrak strapped to a gurney still in his ring attire having suffered some major injuries at Breakdown. The paramedics wheel Jindrak out and push him towards the main doors of the hospital as they are joined by a couple of doctors both in scrubs and  gloves. One of the doctor's, a small balding man with glasses leans over to speak with the paramedics.

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " What've you got? "

[ Paramedic Pamela Olbes ] " Mark Jindrak, professional wrestler, 29, took a beating and hit multiple times with a steel chair. He was unconscious on arrival but BP's stable at 120 and pulse is 90. Looks like he's got serious knee damage, maybe an ACL and probable fractures. Also has some blunt head force trauma and lost a bit of blood from a deep laceration to the back of the head. "

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " A pro wrestler? Well alright, we got it from here. "

Doctor Greene rolls the gurney through triage and into the ER department, by passing the front desk and continuing along to the left before turning down to the right and into trauma room one. Doctor Greene is followed  by a younger looking doctor, with short brown hair who quickly moves over to Doctor Greene as a number of nurses help lift Jindrak onto the bed in the centre of the trauma room. The nurses then begin to hurry around the room as the younger doctor checks Jindrak's eyes while Doctor Greene talks to the tall male nurse by his side.

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " Malik, set up an IV and page the Blood Bank for a unit of O Neg. Carter, how's his lights?"

[ Doctor John Carter ] " Pupils are round and responsive, but he's looking pallor. "

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " Alright then let's get a CBC and Blood Gas to rule out anything serious from the head trauma. Once that's done get him along to X-Ray, looks like he's damaged the menisci and he's probably blown his anterior cruciate ligament. This guy's lucky though he could've been crippled... these wrestlers really must have a death wish. "

[ Doctor John Carter ] " You're right there... anyway for now at least is it alright to move him to curtain three cause' Gerry says we've got multiple GSWs coming in, eta. 4 minutes. "

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " Yeah, this guy doesn't need the trauma room... and page surgery down here when those GSWs get here, I think Benton's covering the ER.  "

Doctor Greene removes his gloves tossing them in the surgical bin and walking out of the trauma room and out into the corridor. He looks up along the corridor and sees the figure of Mike Sanders standing at the admit desk not looking too pleased and berating the large clerk behind the desk. Doctor Greene starts to walk along to Sanders as the camera cuts to a shot of the clerk and Sanders, who is in his ordinary clothes with his tag-team championship over his shoulder.

[ Mike Sanders ] " I'm telling you for the last time that  I need to see my friend, Mark Jindrak. Now it's not for some sentimental crap... this is actually important. It's for business reasons, to do with my livelihood, and to do with me keeping the title that's hanging over my shoulder. All I need is a few seconds to find out if he'll be able to wrestle next week... it's pretty simple. So what's it to be... are going to do the smart thing and let me see him or are you going to act as dumb as you look and keep pissing me off? "

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " Hold on a minute, it's alright Gerry he can come through now. You are looking for Mr. Jindrak, right? "

[ Mike Sanders ] " That's the one, the guy who better be able to defend the tag-team titles this time next week.. otherwise I'm supposed to find some random, average wrestler to partner me. "

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " Well I think I might have some bad news for you Mr.... "

[ Mike Sanders ] " Sanders... you're looking at the above average Mike Sanders. "

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " Well, Mr Sanders, as I was saying you're friend, Mr. Jindrak, received some serious damage to his left  knee and suffered some blunt head force trauma. He will recover over time but I can tell you that there's no chance he'll be walking on his own this time next week never mind wrestling. He's going to be recuperating for over six months and will need extensive physio treatment. "

[ Mike Sanders ] " Wonderful... just freakin' wonderful. I thought there might just be a slim chance he'd be alright but you're saying there's no chance... what the hell am I supposed to do now? "

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " How about thinking if you really want to continue wrestling? Sorry... I'm not here to pass judgement on people but it seems that your, line of work per say, is potentially dehabilitating and could leave you in a lot of pain if you don't think seriously about your future work. As a doctor I fell the need to advise you against the dangers of your work and I'll certainly be advising Mr. Jindrak that any further wrestling could leave him practically crippled. "

[ Mike Sanders ] " Look pal, I'm not in the mood to argue with some pencil-necked doctor about my career. There's a reason why I'm a wrestler and why I don't sit behind a desk from nine till five every day... it's because I'm damn good at being a wrestler. I know that every time I  step in the ring I'm taking a risk but when you have the same talent as myself the risks are drastically reduced. You might want to lecture me like I'm some small child but this is my life and you can keep out of it... just because you're not the sort of man who can cope with the idea of getting in the ring doesn't mean that I don't have every right to make a living how I choose. I knew exactly what I was doing when I signed up in this business and I'm not going to suddenly change my mind... no matter what happens to other guys like Jindrak or what doctors like yourself say. Personally I don't see that there's a thing wrong with my line of work as you put it and when you have above average ability coupled with some gold around your waist then there's no way you can just up and leave the wrestling industry. "

[ Doctor Mark Greene ] " Alright then I can only say what I feel... now you're friend is along to your left and in curtain number three. He's unconscious but you can see him, I'll check on him in a while. "

Doctor Greene walks away headed for the doors to the ER as more gurneys roll in, most likely the gun shot victims that Doctor Carter mentioned. In fact, Carter himself and a small, red haired female doctor with a crutch move across the shot and over to the incoming gurneys. Sanders shakes his head following Doctor Greene's medical advice on wrestling and moves away to where he was told he'd find Jindrak. Indeed, he quickly finds him and steps through the curtain to see a still unconscious Jindrak lying on a bed with a number of bandages and an IV drip attached to him. Sanders turns to the camera with a slight look of shock on his face.

[ Mike Sanders ] " He took a bad beating alright, but I never expected to see him with tubes sticking out of his arms and half of his body wrapped in bandages. His knee injury was a bit of a niggle before Breakdown but it was nothing serious... then Shawn Michaels knocks him about with a steel chair, taking it too far. So not only will he not be partnering me for a long while but his whole career is on hold. We might have had our differences this past week and he had been getting awfully cocky but I still feel for the guy.  "

Mike walks over to the empty chair y Jindrak's bed and sits down on it, lowering his head and glancing at Jindrak before sighing and turning back to the camera.

[ Mike Sanders ] " Now I freely admit that I don't buy that garbage about the modern man and being in touch with your sensitive side, so don't expect me to sit here and feel too sorry for Jindrak. Like I said I'm not here for sentimental reasons, so I'll tell you that maybe Jindrak's injury won't be all bad news for him. Quite frankly, he needed be a bit of a reality check... after this hopefully  he'll just drop the reflection of perfection nonsense and realise that his place is as an average wrestler. I seriously don't know if I could've spent much more time listening to him talk about his perfect body. In fact, I was damn pissed off about it all, he had forgotten that the only reason he was in the APW was because I brought him with me. Then he even had the audacity to mock me and claim that he was the man behind the success of the Natural Born Thrillers... please, anybody who had ever seen us in the ring could tell I was the man leading us to victory.  I might begin to think that this injury was for the best, but I don't want to say anything too harsh about a guy who can't hear me let alone defend himself. All I will say is that he's forfeited his tag-team title and somebody else is going to have to defend it. Now I'll admit that's left me pretty much high and dry, as much as I'd love to become the APW's first ever individual tag-team champion and defend both belts by myself I think Vince said he wanted me to get a partner.... and it's becoming clear that you don't want to cross the boss. So, who exactly is fit enough to partner Mike Sanders... you see I don't need any old partner I need an above average partner and I don't know where to turn, 'cause to say above average wrestlers are scare in APW is a huge understatement. "

Sanders leans back on the chair and looks upwards as if he's thinking over his options. As he lowers his head he begins to speak again.

[ Mike Sanders ] " Obviously there'll be plenty of people who'd like to partner me but it'll be equally obvious that they won't be up to the job. I tell you they'll be lining up to partner me... it's a great opportunity for some average nobody to become an APW Tag-Team champion over night... they don't need to do a thing inside the ring yet they'll be handed the title to wear around their waist. Then they get the honour of being my tag-team partner, they get to see a truly above average wrestler in action and they might well learn a few things too. But while pathetically average hopefuls are rubbing their hands at the possibility of being my tag-team partner I've been given a raw deal... I have to choose someone from the waiting list, not even a real APW superstar. I'm forced into scrapping the bottom of the barrel... as if I'm going to be able to find anyone with an ounce of talent on the waiting list. With someone from the waiting list it'll more likely be to my disadvantage to have another man standing with me to face Edge and Christian... it makes it all to easy for them to win my tag-team titles without even pinning me. After all they are now my titles...  sure, I'm gifting one of the belts to someone else, but I was the one who won the titles... I am the true tag-team champion.  My lucky partner just better not let me down, cause' it'll be a slap in the face if he costs me what I went through tables, ladders and chairs for only last month. This is really going to take an above average performance if I'm to not only destroy Edge and Christian but also to stop my partner, whoever he may be, from screwing up.... you see' I'm rescind to the fact that I'm going to have to do all the work myself at Crash and Burn, there's not a man in the APW I could trust to hold onto my tag-team gold. "

Mike then pushes the chair away as he stands up and stretches out, making as if he's ready to leave the injured Jindrak when he turns back around to stare into the camera.

[ Mike Sanders ] " You can tell that I'm not in the best of moods right now... I think that's perfectly understandable given my situation, but that's okay cause' I'm still just holding in all my anger... ready to unleash it on Edge and Christian at Crash and Burn. Those two deserve one hell of a beating... they've walked around APW as if they own the place, with their heads held high and those smug little grins on their faces... they're trying to act like they're above average. Haha, well nobody is buying that... they have no right to be strolling around like they do, they're not APW Tag-Team champions... I am. Yet  they ignore my status as a champion, they disrespect me and get in my face. Well boys disrespect like that doesn't get you anywhere other than a beating... I'm going to have to beat a little bit of respect into you. I'm undefeated in APW 2 on 2 tag-team competition and have every damn right to wear the belt... last month I went through six other men to win these titles, maybe you didn't quite see that, but that was the prime example of what I can do inside the ring. Those actions gained me the respect of the locker room, it made people understand why I say I'm above average, so why don't you go back and watch the tapes and I'm sure that if you have any trace of sense in your brain you'll realise that I'm not somebody to take lightly. If instead though you ignore me then I'll only give you this last, final warning... do not dare disrespect me in the ring because it'll be the worst mistake you ever made in your life. I'll be only too happy to make you live to regret crossing swords with me... 'cause at Crash and Burn it'll be your careers that are dying off, going into freefall.. crashing and burning while my career will continue to shine, lighting up the APW and moving on to bigger and better things. I'll just stand back, looking down on you Edge and Christian 'cause at Crash and Burn you're going to be.... "

Mike Sanders ] " And you know what that means, Haha."

Mike then moves away from Mark Jindrak's bed and pushes through the curtain around his bed but has to step back as Doctor Carter rushes  past on his way to examine a patient. Sanders then begins to make his way towards the hospital's exit when we hear a ringing and Mike pulls his cell phone out from his pocket and picks up the phone.

Mike Sanders ] " Hello.... [pause as Mike listens to the caller] you're going to solve all my tag-team problems are you? Go on...  [another longer pause as Mike listens]  that's an interesting proposition but I'm not agreeing to anything over the phone....  [ yet another pause] a meeting in person, well that could be possible. "

Mike continues talking as the camera begins to blur and fade out as his voice becomes less clear. The APW logo then fades up before cutting to black.
