Orange Slice Cake



3 cups all purpose flour
(set 1/2 cup aside to flour orange candy)

1 lb. orange slice candy

8 oz. dates

2 cups chopped nuts

8 oz. coconut

2 sticks margarine

5 eggs

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp soda

2 cups sugar

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla



Cream margarine, add sugar, beat in eggs (one at a time), and vanilla. Chop orange slices and dredge in the 1/2 cup flour (make sure candy is completely coated, it wil prevent candy from sinking to bottom of pan). Mix dry ingredients, add to mixture, add buttermilk. Lastly add orange slices and mix very sparingly!! Bake in a tube pan, 300° for 1 hour and 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let stand in pan until cool. This is a very rich cake and does not need icing.
