It wasn't the first CD-based game console - the Sega CD holds that distinction - but it was the first true success for the format. The compact disc's greatest strength is in the capacity of data it can store; Sony, a long-time electronics giant, played to this strength by building a solid game machine and packing as much fun into a game as they could.
