Challenges to Faith:Atheism

This is a picture of Richard Dawkins and will take you to his official website.

I would have to say that at first I agree with Richard Dawkins, because his thinking is very logical and most of the points he makes are truthful and can be backed with evidence. However he does seem to ignore evidence of God’s existence too, I would say that believing in the Catholic God is more reasonable than believing in a flying spaghetti monster or Thor, because there is more evidence that a Catholic God exists. I did see truth in his argument that the non fundamentalists are bad just because they seem to prohibit fundamentalists, and make it possible for fundamentalists to exist. I think that maybe the Catholic Church and society in general could take a stronger stance against people who believe so absolutely and blindly in the Bible that they lose sight of reason, and do things that are immoral. I do think that the belief in God could be just a crutch someone uses because they identify themselves with that belief so much that they couldn’t imagine life without it, and though they don’t have true deep Faith, they pretend to believe to make it through life day to day, and it actually hinders their spiritual and intellectual growth. However I do think it possible to arrive at a logical conclusion that God exists and for that belief to be strength and not a weakness, as long as you do not believe blindly and struggle with you Faith from time to time, because if you do not struggle then you don’t care enough. Lastly I do agree with Richard Dawkins in his view of bringing children up to make their own decisions about religion. I wouldn’t say that it is child abuse to teach your child about religion, but personally at this point in my life, I wouldn’t baptize my child during its infancy because I would want them to remember when hey were baptized and I would want them to make the decision to be baptized themselves. I must admit that I myself was not baptized until I was in the 2nd grade and I thought it was a challenging and rewarding experience because I had to memorize prayers and to some extent actively choose to be baptized. So all in all I think Mr. Dawkins views are logical and reasonable; however I think that the best things such as love are sometimes not logical or reasonable and as Father Gabriel said in The Mission , “God is Love”
