Paint it Black

The Colors of War

There are many colors of war
Dark hues mixed with non-healing sores
Shades of depression, grays and the blues
Yellowish tints for wannabe's and fools

Olive drabs and jungle greens
Endless arrays of Technicolor scenes
Vivid orange, crisp brown leaves
Ashen gray bodies stolen from that agent of thieves

Murky brown waters speckled with leach
The glimmer of brass on a blood red beach
Copper drops that lay on a razor grass sprout
Flesh tones parted as ivory splinters stick out

Shades of Black and shades of white
All skin tones of mankind wrapped in aluminum bright
While the gold and purple hues of death overtake
bright colored medals and ribbons, fly to heartbreak

Silver birds floating upon wind currents of blue
Puffy pink clouds masking the pale cessation of youth
Earthen splotches upon pallets crusted and dried
And to this day I'm not sure when the rainbow had died
