Part 24

I love you.

The three words Kyo wanted to hear most of all.

I love you.

But... they were coming from the wrong pair of lips, at the wrong time, in all the wrong circumstances. Toshiya laid there, worriedly waiting for Kyo's answer.

I love you.

//Toshiya! No! Don't say that! Kaoru loves you! Be with him! No no.... this is all wrong!// "Toshiya..." //I can't lie to Toshiya because if I get with him, then that's going back on what I told Kaoru!// "I... I'm sorry..."

Toshiya nodded, closing his eyes as tears began to slip from them. "I know..." he whispered, turning around and curling up into a ball. "I know..." Kyo put his hand on Toshiya's shoulder, but the bassist cringed away. "Please... Kyo... let me alone for a while..."

Kyo nodded slowly. "Okay..." He slowly got up, looking over the bishounen carefully before walking out of the bedroom and closing the door softly.

Kyo pressed his back against the door frame and closed his eyes, sighing. As Toshiya's sobs hit his ears, he squeezed his eyes tightly together. //I'm sorry, Toshiya...//

A knock sounded on his apartment door and Kyo slowly made his way over, opening it and feeling his heart sink at seeing Kaoru. //You... I love _you_!//

Kaoru tilted his head to the side, confused at Kyo's face and the faint sobs in the background. "Kyo..."

Kyo shook his head. "I... I have to go meet up with Hakuei." He looked up to Kaoru. "Take care of Toshiya."

Kaoru slowly walked into Toshiya's room once his sobs ceased. He walked to the side of teh bed and knelt down, brushing his fingers over Toshiya's tear-stained cheeks. Toshiya closed his eyes and didn't respond as Kaoru's lips fell upon his own for a short kiss. "Toshiya..." he began to kiss away the tears that rested on Toshiya's face. Toshiya remained totally still and non-responsive. "Toshiya... don't run off like that..." he pressed forehead to the bassist's. "You had me so worried..."

"So?"

"So, I don't like it when I dont' know you're safe."

"What would you care?" Toshiya whimpered.

"Because," Kaoru rubbed his thumb on Toshiya's lower lip, "I..." //Come on... you almost lost him... you're not gonna let him go before you say it...//

"Because?" Fear lightly clung to Toshiya's whisper.

"Because I... I'm in love with you." Kaoru said softly, resting his hand on Toshiya's cheek and looking into his eyes before leaning in and kissing the bassist. His lips slowly caressed Toshiya's and he smiled slightly as Toshiya began to respond.

"Ando-san?" The nurse's voice came through the door. "It's awful quiet in there... are you finished?"

Shinya giggled against Die's neck and Die pulled the covers over both of them. "Hai, Kara."

"Kara?" Shinya asked.

Die smiled. "She's my nurse."

The door opened slowly and Kara came in with her hand over her eyes. "Am I allowed to look?"

Die grinned. "Hai."

Kara slowly took her hand away and closed the door, smiling at the couple. "Well, Ando-san, the doctor said that since it seems you suffered no after-effects from the concussion, then you can go home as soon as you're ready." She took a paper off of her clipboard and handed it to Die. "This is a list of possible side-effects and symptoms. If you expirience anything, follow the instructions and call us if you have questions."

Die nodded. "Thanks, Kara. Sorry for..."

Kara waved her hand to get him to stop. "It's okay, Ando-san. You and your boyfriend looked great."

Shinya blushed and buried his face into Die's hair while Die laughed. "Well, thanks for keeping guard."

Kara smiled. "Of course. I wouldn't wanna have you two disturbed. Now, I don't wanna rush you or anything, but someone is coming for the other bed, so you should get dressed, ne?"
