 Part 5

June 1, 8:23pm, the lounge.

The four Saviours were watching their favourite anime on this peaceful evening.

Toshiya was busy watching it as well as applying glittery pink nail polish onto Kaoru’s adorably cute toenails at the same time.

Kaoru had been refusing, but eventually gave in to the doe-eyed Toshiya.

Who can possibly say no to that?

Shinya and Die were concentrating hard on the TV screen, but at times making shy, brief eye contacts with each other. (Come on! You guys can do better than this… *Sarah punches the wall* --;)

Soon Yoshiki came in, picked up the TV remote control, and changed to the news channel.

"Hey! It was a really important scene, you know."

Toshiya complained.

Yoshiki chose to ignore this, and pointed at the screen.

"Now, watch this carefully. It will be your first mission."

At once, everyone became quiet and began to watch the news intently.

"This is a direct news from Kyoto. There had been a number of mysterious deaths since last week near The Cage Mental Institution. A blood-stained, ripped off body has been found every single night since last Saturday. The medical experts say that the wounds are very similar for each case and from all the evidences, it seems that some wild animal, such as a wolf, has killed the victims. This seems rather bizarre as there are said to be no such wild animals around the village. The superstitious rumours about the spirits and ghosts are becoming exceedingly popular among the villagers. The Police announced this morning that…"

Yoshiki turned off the TV, and looked around at the all-tensed-up saviours.

"I didn’t know we had to fight animals…" muttered Die.

He was disappointed that the first enemy he’ll fight with his new marvellous magic sword would only be a wolf.

"He isn’t an animal, Die-kun."

Yoshiki explained calmly.

"The wounds they showed on TV are familiar to me as I saw them on my friends’ bodies a long time ago. If I’m not mistaken, it’s a werewolf."

"Werewolf?! Is there really such a thing?" cried Die.

"Of course. If you just read ‘The Wondrous Magical Creatures’…" said Kaoru, showing off his new-found knowledge.

"I didn’t ask you, Kaoru. Besides, I know at least that there is a live and kicking skeleton…"

Die sneered.

"What did you just say, baka?"

Kaoru gritted his teeth and clenched his fists.

The two glared at each other as if they could kill.

"Stop, both of you." demanded Yoshiki.

"God does not approve of conflicts between friends." preached Shinya.

"Kaoru, don’t move! You’ll ruin your toenails!" shouted Toshiya, alarmed.

After a thick silence, everyone was staring at Toshiya instead.

Toshiya looked bewildered for a moment, then smiled sheepishly.

"Er… did I say something wrong? Oh, please go on, Yoshiki-san. *^^*"

Everyone *sweatdrop*

Yoshiki sighed, then continued.

"Werewolves can act only after 12 o’clock. We need to get there beforehand. Go get your stuff and meet me here in thirty seconds!"

*******

Kyoto. 11:40pm. In front of The Cage Mental Institution.

"Can you see anything yet?"

Yoshiki asked Toshiya, who was staring hard at the crystal ball.

"Not really…" answered Toshiya, frowning a little.

He glanced at the pictures of wolves again, then looked back at the crystal ball, concentrating harder.

He was sweating.

The five of them were hiding in Yoshiki’s car in silence, waiting for any signs of the werewolf.

Shinya was saying his prayers in a low voice, stroking his cross pendant while the rest looked at the crystal ball and Toshiya alternately.

About ten minutes later, Shinya’s cross started to shoot out brilliant beams when Toshiya shouted in shock.

"I think I’m seeing something. The guy is transforming into a wolf right now! I can feel so much pain and rage…"

Toshiya started to tremble.

"I know this will be hard for you, Toshiya. But can you tell me more about the guy?"

Yoshiki asked, putting a soothing arm around the young man’s shoulder.

"He’s blond, pale and skinny. His eyes are filled with fear… he’s screaming in pain, fallen down to the floor wailing and wailing…"

Toshiya started to sob uncontrollably. Yoshiki held him in his arms for a while.

Toshiya sometimes reminded him of Hide… he used to cry a lot, too.

(Sorry, guys… I’m not intending to break the Kaoru-Toshiya match, but Yoshiki and Toshiya surely look good together, don’t they? ^^)

"Can you tell me where he is?"

Yoshiki asked Toshiya softly.

"Yoshiki-san, can’t you see that Toshiya’s crying? Give him a break. Isn’t it a bit too cruel to keep asking?"

Kaoru was angry.

"This has to be done."

Yoshiki answered calmly.

Toshiya breathed in deeply and watched the crystal ball again.

"He’s in a dark, small, confined place. He seems to be locked in."

"Is he wearing a white uniform?"

"Oh… yes."

"That means that he is one of the patients. Okay, Toshiya… you said he was locked in, didn’t you?"

"Not anymore… he broke off the locks and came out of the room. He’s becoming hairy and his hands are changing into paws…"

"Come on, everyone. Let’s go!"

Yoshiki led them out of the car and towards the gate of the institution. There were a number of policemen and security guards.

"They won’t be much help to us. They’ll only be in our way. Kaoru-kun, make them sleep." ordered Yoshiki.

Kaoru took out his wand and chanted a spell.

Soon the policemen and guards fell to the ground and started to snore.

The Saviours carefully rolled them into a big police van.

"He’s coming!" shouted Toshiya, spotting the werewolf, who has just come out of the building.

It was a complete wolf, yet he had human eyes.

The pair of hungry eyes looked at them with malice.

The sharp, white teeth shined brightly in the moonlight.

All of them shuddered at the sight.

"Get ready."

Yoshiki whispered under his breath.

Just then the werewolf jumped and attacked Die, who was standing in the front.

It was so fast that he didn’t even have time to defend himself. He had hardly pulled out his sword.

"Shit!"

Die’s shoulder was bleeding, but soon he regained himself and tried to attack the werewolf back with his sword.

Shinya produced a thin layer around all of them with his cross, which made the werewolf wince and draw back.

But the werewolf was powerful. It dodged Die’s sword easily and soon attacked Kaoru, who was shooting him fireballs using his wand.

It then clawed at Toshiya.

Toshiya didn’t attempt to fight back. He just looked the werewolf in the eyes. He could feel the loneliness and fear it was feeling… somehow so familiar to him…

"Toshiya!" shouted Kaoru.

The blue-haired one was in danger of being killed in any moment.

Then a weird thing happened.

The werewolf could have easily hurt, or even killed Toshiya. But it let him go, with a confused expression.

"You, monster!"

Kaoru was trying to put a curse on the werewolf when Toshiya stopped him, stepping forward.

"What the hell do you think you are doing?" asked Kaoru, exasperated.

"I think I’ll try to talk to him." answered Toshiya, quietly but firmly.

"Talk? Are you insane?" yelled Die.

"Let me go. I think he wants to talk to me."

The werewolf was actually looking at Toshiya without the initial hostility.

Shinya just closed his eyes and prayed.

"Let him go."

Yoshiki said finally.

"I think Toshiya knows what he is doing."

Kaoru still looked dubious, but he couldn’t argue with Yoshiki.

Die looked worried.

Shinya kept praying, with his eyes tightly shut.

Toshiya approached the werewolf slowly.

"Hi, my name’s Toshiya. Wanna talk?"

The rest of the saviours looked at them anxiously.

Kaoru grabbed his wand, ready to attack the werewolf in any moment if it makes a single move on his beloved one.

Everything seemed fine.

Of course Toshiya was doing all the talking, but as he could read the werewolf’s mind, they were able to communicate with each other.

Then the werewolf made a sudden gesture of approaching Toshiya, but Kaoru was quicker.

An electric blue layer from his wand hit the werewolf, and it fell to the ground.

"Hey, he wasn’t trying to attack me!" cried Toshiya, but Kaoru wasn’t listening.

The werewolf soon got up. Wounded, it stared at Kaoru angrily.

Its eyes were fierce and burning.

Then suddenly, painfully bright white beams were shot from its eyes, at Kaoru.

Kaoru collapsed and a red-black liquid gushed from Kaoru’s chest.

"Oh no…!"

Toshiya started to cry and the werewolf suddenly stopped, looking at Toshiya, puzzled.

That was when Die attacked it with his sword.

The werewolf quickly moved away, but the damage was already done.

As it started to bleed more and more, the werewolf started to transform into a human.

His face was very pale and he was bleeding a lot.

His ash-blond hair was getting soaked in blood.

His slight frame shook violently with pain, but his eyes were still powerfully intense, not admitting his defeat.

Die attacked him again, but this time the blond ducked.

Then he started to howl.

It wasn’t like human’s voice at all.

Like a wolf. A long, moaning cry…

It hurt their ears so much, so much that it seemed to penetrate through their bones.

Kaoru managed to yell out his spell, and soon all the sounds were muffled.

Die quickly got up and tried to stab the werewolf-man when… Toshiya stood up between the sword and the bleeding blond.

"Get out of the way."

Die snarled.

"No…!"

Toshiya shook his head violently.

"He tried to kill Kaoru and me, damn it! And he tried to hurt you."

"No, he wasn’t… he was going to give me a hug." mumbled Toshiya.

"Yeah right, a wolf giving you a hug? How nice…. Totchi, you’re just being ridiculous!"

"He’s not a mere wolf!"

"What’s wrong with you? Let Die finish him off!" yelled Kaoru, unable to understand why Toshiya was acting so strangely.

It was good that Toshiya was sensitive, caring and everything, but this was simply too much.

He shouldn’t be so damn sympathetic towards their enemy.

All the while, the pale blond was quietly standing behind Toshiya, looking at him with –surprisingly enough- mild affection.

"It’s all a misunderstanding…" said Toshiya.

"Oh yeah? A misunderstanding and he nearly killed us." said Kaoru bitterly.

"Kaoru-kun, please… he’s not a bad person. I know it. Just let him explain-"

"Everyone, stop! I need to tell you something."

Shinya said with such authority that everyone stopped and stared at him.

He had been praying all the time through the fight.

Everyone looked at the priest with curiosity.

Shinya wasn’t a kind of person who liked to stand up and talk.

Shinya looked straight at Yoshiki.

"Did you know this from the beginning?"

"No, I just realised it, too."

Yoshiki answered with a vague smile.

Everyone else was puzzled.

What the hell were they talking about?

"Okay, let me tell you…"

Shinya started.

"This man –werewolf, whatever- will be the last member of The Saviours."

Even before Shinya finished his sentence, there was much chaos.

The blond looked confused.

Kaoru just shook his head, unbelieving what he’s hearing.

"I’m not working with that subhuman creature!" protested Die, still angry at the blond for endangering their lives.

"What’s your name?"

Toshiya asked him with a smile.

"Kyo. My name is Kyo, Toshiya…"

The blond answered, fondly gazing at the blue-haired bishonen.

Kaoru frowned.

This didn’t feel right. He didn’t like seeing them together.

Could this be a premonition?

*******

Mwahahaha…… *manic laughter*

I made Kyo a werewolf, who shoots layers from his eyes and whose roar has a supernatural power.

I must have gone insane. (Sarah’s formula: insanity = creativity)

This is getting totally out of my control. I’m sorry…T.T

I can hear you all quickly turning your backs on me.

No, please don’t~~~! (though I deserve it…--;)

Anyway, Kyo’s character and background will be explained in the next part, and we will see how Kaoru and Kyo get on…^^;

Comments will be very warmly appreciated…//--//

Take care, and see you soon!
