To-day I threw away my pride,
And tossed some other things aside.
My Nationality for one.
A needless thing when all is done.
Who set the bounderies,I’d like to know.
Not GOD who made the rivers flow.
Then I flung away conceit.
I didn’t bless our fields of wheat!
Not of my doing this bountious yield,
While others stand in a barren field.
I didn’t create this white-skinned face.
That comes from someone else’s grace.
And anyway, it might not be,
A condition that really favours me.
Avarice I soon let go.
Let others have the diamonds glow.
Ever since the day I found
Carbon dioxide does abound,
Free for even the poorest slob
Who never even held a job.
Softer than the gem that’s bright.
Harder on me than a blight.
Hate I can’t afford to-day.
It rebounds in the strangest way.
Causing cramps and muscle spasms,
Heart attacks and mental schisms.
Why should I lie in an early grave
To prove to someone else they’re brave?
Ennui is another curse.
An illness I refuse to nurse.
Let it die and cease to be
Because of the things it’s done to me.
We can’t be bothered, cries a Nation,
While men debase themselves with passion.
A pendulum swing that first began,
In strictness not designed for man,
Has swung the other way, I fear,
Bringing Armegeddon near.
Love, compassion and sympathy,
These I’ll hold most dear to me
Selflessness and courage keep,
Until I reach that timeless sleep.
But one more thing I’ll need today
Before I struggle on my way.
The hardest to hold.
The easiest sold.
Worth every battle we fight to retain.
If all else fails, let this remain.
You’ll need it when the end is here,
No matter what else was held so dear.
GOD, must be faced by you and I
On the day HE’S chosen for us to die.
All our gifts must be set aside
And only TRUTH with us abide.
Only one second left to go!
Only ourselves at last to know!
THE TRUTH! THE TRUTH! THE TRUTH! HE’LL CRY!
And we’ll face it all, on the day we die.
