| Every year there comes a time when the gaming world focuses on one show and one show only. That show is Space World. OTW will be bringing you all the info and gossip from Spaceworld here at your fingertips. And with Space World 2001 starting this Thursday there you'll be able to get all the info about new games and the Next Gen. systems right here. The partial list of games to be shown at Space World 2001 is listed below. News 24/8/01 Perfect Dark Zero not to be announced at Spaceworld??? It seems that the next installment to Rare's Perfect Dark series will not be shown or announced at Spaceworld. In a teleconference with press this morning, Peter Main said the following: "There's nothing today to announce on either Square or Perfect Dark. I have no information for you." RareOps pointed out that this could mean that Peter Main has no information but somebody else does. By Martin Goodall SFA:DP delayed until 2002 Rare's upcoming RPG, based on the hit Starfox franchise, will be delayed until sometime in the 1st quarter of 2002 according to Nintendo Power Magazine. The article then goes on to say that this could be good news for the game itself as it will give Rare more time to develop the game further. 25/8/01 Zelda for Gamecube info announced Zelda for the GameCube has been totally revamped from the footage that was shown at last year's Spaceworld and last e3. Using a graphics technique known as "toon shading", the adventure now has the look of an interactive cartoon. Mr. Miyamoto is shooting for a new portrayal of Link, one that is more like his original image for the character. At this point Mr. Miyamoto didn't want to give out too many game play details, but from the short video it looked like the game would focus and swashbucking adventure with a humorous twist. Nintendo GameCube will launch in Japan on September 14 for 25,000 YEN. Nintendo GameCube will initially be available in an indigo-colored housing. In November, orange and black versions will be available as well. Nintendo plans to ship five hundred thousand units for the Japanese launch and 4 million units by the end of March 2002 for both Japan and North America. It's coming to the Game Boy Advance, and based on the few levels Nintendo is showing here at Space World 2001 in Japan, it's making no sacrifices along the way. Like any good Mario game, B runs and throws fireballs, while A jumps. The spin jump move has been placed on the R trigger. The control is just as responsive as it was on the SNES and the graphics are essentially identical. The sound, however, is a bit different. The coin pickup sound and several other effects are slightly higher pitched, and the typical Mario speech samples ("let's-a go" and the like) have been added. As Super Mario World is quite possibly the greatest 2D platformer ever released, we're nothing but excited to see more of it in Super Mario Advance 2. Like the original Super Mario Advance, Advance 2 has a multiplayer mode, but it wasn't playable here at Space World. The menu, however, just said Mario Bros., which makes us wonder what, if anything, will be different this time around. The game is scheduled to be released in Japan early next year. We managed to get some screenshots of the game in action. Many of the parks' popular rides will be showcased in digital form in this upcoming game, and some famous Universal characters--such as Woody Woodpecker--will make guest appearances. We'll have more on this one for you from the show floor. Source:Gamespot By Miguel Lopez 27/8/01 Smash Bros. Melee steals the show! Super Smash Bros. Melee took center stage at Nintendo's Space World 2001. It not only had some of the longest lines but also even had its own tournament where expert players could win themselves a GameCube and a copy of the game when they are released. Any fan of Smash Bros. knows at first sight how great SSB Melee is. It features vastly improved graphics over the original Nintendo 64 version, a whole new cast of characters, improved and more balanced moves for pre-existing fighters, new levels, a dedicated single player mode, and tons of new modes including coin mode and tournament mode. Source:IGN Cube FIFA 2002 Videos released to the public! EA have released two video's of their long awaited FIFA game for the Gamecube. The first FIFA game on any Nintendo console for two years will be called FIFA:World Cup for the Japan release. FIFA Movie #1 FIFA Movie #2 Waverace makes waves at Space World Nintendo displayed its latest version of Wave Race: Blue Storm at Space World 2001, and we're happy to report that it's looking and playing better than ever. The most noticeable difference was the addition of a few new levels. The version on the show floor didn't seem to include all the final levels as many such as the arctic stage were missing. One level called Ethnic Lagoon (this name will change for the US release) featured large rolling hills in the background and lots of housing developments on the shores. The waves were very calm, but there were a lot of sharp turns to keep you on your toes. Dolphin Park, a former Wave Race 64 level, has returned and is looking more amazing than ever with lush coral gardens underlying the crystal clear water. Fittingly the dolphins are back in great numbers and swim beside the racers, jumping and performing their own tricks to show off. Another midnight metropolitan level showed off lots of towering skyscrapers and sleek water reflections. The multiplayer mode was working perfectly as well, running with a constant framerate and great draw distance. We're not sure what's being sacrificed to keep the game running so smoothly, but we haven't seen any two-player or four-player matches where large, rolling waves were being displayed. The Virtua Striker series is a long running Sega Arcade Sports game that has been very popular in the Japanese arcades. Last year, Virtua Striker 2 for the Dreamcast came out with disappointing results. While the graphics looked amazing, game play, and controls, all were just craptacular, so to speak. While the jury is still out on gameplay, we have gotten our hands on these new hi-res screens -- and at least in the visual department Virtua Striker 3 doesn't disappoint. |
