I changed her name so she won't get flooded with PMs...
so this started as a conversation about polynesia. I have wanted to go for ages and said so in the room I was in... She PMs me and tells me she wants to go too to learn about this all natural juice product made there that she says is doing amazing... I didn't save the beginning of the transcript... She was raving about how the company was growing faster than coca-cola.. I said "that's easy... Coke is already everywhere... how could it grow fast anymore?" She says it's safe because it's all natural... I told her arsenic is all natural too. So I google this product, Tahitian Noni Juice. It's expensive, like $50-$100 US for a quart(liter). And she works for the company that sells up to 90% of the world's supply
stargazers: here I am
ninth_level_dan: hi again
ninth_level_dan: looks like as a health drink that it's doing well
stargazers: it's doing very well...
stargazers: for something that is in the PDR...
I look up this juice online now... google rules
ninth_level_dan: chuckles... i like that it used to be touted as an alternative therapy to treat HIV... that's a bit much. laughs
stargazers: "Not only have I received reports about how noni has helped reduce the negative signs and symptoms experienced by sufferers of AIDS such as respiratory illnesses and digestive disorders, but I have also received information from individuals indicating that a significant rise in T-cells occurred after starting to drink noni juice*. I believe in the case of noni and AIDS, there may be a very strong relationship between Dr. Ralph Heinicke's work with the xeronine system and boosting the cells most involved with the disease - helper T-cells. In his theory, when the proxeronine is combined with proxeroninease it creates the cell-rejuvenating substance known as xeronine. With the T-cells rejuvenated and present in a larger number, the body is more able to ward off diseases and maintain
stargazers: maintain functionally.
stargazers: In my survey, of the 105 people who consumed noni juice to help reduce their symptoms with AIDS, 56 percent reported some sort of successful results."
ninth_level_dan: yeah, but it looks like the FDA is starting to make them remove some of those claims from advertising...
http://headaches.about.com/cs/alternative/a/noni_juice.htm
good link.. check it out
stargazers: right....that's because people were saying that it cures...
stargazers: which it doesn't...it helps with symptoms.
ninth_level_dan: yeah... most juices high in anti oxidants will have similar effects
stargazers: "We have an FDA approved process in Quality Control, Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operation Procedures which are routinely inspected by the FDA. We do not only meed the FDA regulations but also surpass them." Pat Patterson
ninth_level_dan: Oh I don't have any doubt that it's manufactured according to FDA guidlines... that's easy... the picking of the fruit, making it into puree, blending with other concentrates, pastuerizing.... all that stuff is easy.. My concern is whether there is anything that proves it's really all that more effective than any other dark juice product that costs many times less. That's all
stargazers: Where do you live, may I ask?
ninth_level_dan: florida now
stargazers: ooohhhh....Florida!
ninth_level_dan: I like how many articles talk about the health effects the native islanders enjoyed... even though they only ate the fruit in times of famine because it tasted to bad. chuckles
stargazers: It tastes...like...rotten bannanas and fruit juice
ninth_level_dan: laughs
ninth_level_dan: yum
stargazers: why it costs so much....it's organic, pure fruit, best on the market, more nutrients than any other fruit, one bottle would last a normal person one month
ninth_level_dan: interesting... i don't see that anywhere yet
stargazers: Tja
stargazers: That's because I've gone to some training courses.
stargazers: Do you smoke?
ninth_level_dan: no
stargazers: drink?
ninth_level_dan: well, I would hope that the company who makes it would say that it's healthy... I was looking for something objective. chuckles
ninth_level_dan: no
I drink very little... maybe 2 beers a month
stargazers: soda?
ninth_level_dan: not often
stargazers: put it this way....the amount of money people spend on soda, ciggs and drinks...equalls if not exceeds the price of a bottle of TNI
ninth_level_dan: I agree
ninth_level_dan: I think it would be better if they quit all those things instead
stargazers: Right....$1.50 per day is all you would be spending on for better health...less if you were a distributor.
ninth_level_dan: right... but so far there isn't much objective evidence to show that the health benefits of noni juice are worth the high cost... it's cheaper to quit smoking and buy some flintstones vitamins
stargazers: yeah...they are made with sugar
stargazers: plus, it has helped with people quitting smoking....
ninth_level_dan: sugar is ok
stargazers: Not in my vitamins..
ninth_level_dan: of course it helps people quit smoking... If you introduce them to any health food product, they will begin to take concious steps to improve their health... you could do the same with orange juice.
ninth_level_dan: when did sugar become unhealthy? The amount of sugar in one flintsones vitamin is less than a bagel
stargazers: I have to eat...if you're interrested in the health part or even for business...let me know....I can have someone from the business who is making a lot of money and is really fun to be around with..
ninth_level_dan: ok... I'm also interested in how the population where it is grown and the environment where it is grown; are they being overdeveloped or exploited...
stargazers: easy, they all have jobs now
ninth_level_dan: so do sweatshop workers
ninth_level_dan: that doesn't mean it's right
stargazers: they are not considered a third world country...
stargazers: TNI took them out of that category.
TNI is in Utah... they distribute this stuff pyramid scheme style... check out this link... http://www.theness.com/encyc/nonifruitjuice-encyc.html
ninth_level_dan: That's good to hear from a TNI rep.. I'd still probably want to hear from someone else though before investing... I don't want them bulldozing the whole island to plant nothing but noni fruit :}
stargazers: Umm..Noni fruit grows wild...it was there for over 1,500 years...it grows more abundantly in Tahiti and has more nutrients
ninth_level_dan: right... it grows wild NOW... so did vanilla before we wiped out the environment where it came from... now all vanilla is chemically grown... there are no wild vanilla bean plants
stargazers: why would a country such as Tahiti want to rid of their money making resource...that doesn't make sense...
ninth_level_dan: for the same reason Brazil is wiping out rainforests... short term profit
stargazers: Not only that...but one time, they were doing some kind of testing where they took some leaves off the tree....they left only 20 leaves..but in a few months, the trees grew more leaves that proved to be thicker and better than before.
gee, THAt sounds like some serious clinical research...
ninth_level_dan: I would want to know that this company is managing the land properly for long term sustainability
stargazers: How many times a year are apples, oranges, pears, berries...etc harvested.
ninth_level_dan: once i think
stargazers: ok...get this...on a noni tree...there are 5 generations of fruit growing on a time. The harvest cycle is every 28 days...what can you think that happens ever 28 days?
ninth_level_dan: full moon
stargazers: that...and a woman's menstral cycle.
ninth_level_dan: ok
what the fuck does that have to do with anything? I mean it's interesting if it's true, but come on...
stargazers: that fruit grows everywhere in Tahiti...even in the cracks of the sidewalks.
is she saying this plant produces a fully formed fruit every 4 weeks, all year? No fucking way I'm believing that...
ninth_level_dan: yes it does... [fruit] used to grow in lots of places before it was over-exploited, that's all I'm saying
stargazers: Actually, some trees were burned...and again, the branch poked thru the soot and grew again.
ninth_level_dan: yeah, grape vines do that too. Some plants are tough. That's cool that it survived... All the more reason to ensure such a precious natural resource is respected
stargazers: Too bad there arent plans for a "Grape juice Cafe" in the near future...as there is for Tahitian Noni Cafe.
ninth_level_dan: the next starbucks
stargazers: You know it!
ninth_level_dan: I hope not
stargazers: Oh dear....starbucks...and coffee beans!
stargazers: Not to mention....tea leaves!
ninth_level_dan: yeah... not a good history
ninth_level_dan: so it's nice to see organic, shade grown coffee planters coming out
stargazers: How expensive is that going to be? not to mention...how unhealthy
ninth_level_dan: I would pay more for coffee that was ehtically grown by a company that does not exploit it's environment or workers...
ninth_level_dan: ethically, rather
stargazers: You have the website...and my YIM...I'm sure the person who first put pineapple on the market had a rough time too.
ninth_level_dan: chuckles... I'm sure they did... but it costs a lot less... take care, i gotta go get some dinner myself
