On July 3rd of 2005, my family and I embarked on an unforgettable trip to Austin, the capital of Texas. We left the city of Houston in high hopes to see great sights. We were not disappointed.
Upon entering Austin we drove around Lake Travis, then had brunch at the Oasis Restaurant, comfortably situated on the top of a hill, 450 feet above the lake. Despite the hot summer climate, the Oasis Restaurant, certainly living up to its name, accommodated us with fans and misty water. The view below from the deck was spectacular, and the food was delectable. This is why my father uttered repeated compliments about how the food satisfied his hunger. We also took some pictures of the view from the deck. One such picture can be seen to the right.
After our stomachs were full, we decided to return to level of the lake and have some fun in the sun at one of the many beaches surrounding Lake Travis. We entered Bob Wentz Park and on one of its many beaches, we swam, talked, and laughed, but most of all, had a lot of fun.
After hours of fun, my family decided to settle in the Ramada Inn for a rest. The facilities were well maintained, and the employees were nice. After a good rest, in the evening, we set out to appease our hunger for adventure.
We returned to Lake Travis, this time going to a harbor of motor-boats. We walked along the shore line. Afterwards, we hiked a nature trail. We were all tested by the forces of nature, but had fun in doing so as well. After the trail, all of us were so tired, we decided to return to the inn and call it a day.
The next day, we set our sights on the biggest attraction in the city- the Capitol Building. Every aspect of the site was incredible, especially to my father, who was astounded by the well cut grass, and the well manicured trees and shrubs in the lawn, and the historical sites adorning the area, and the impressive architecture of the building itself. One of the many of the pictures we took can be seen to the right.
Despite the fun we had, we knew that our home was in Houston. Satisfied with our journey, we headed home with only fond memories of the fun we had in Austin, Texas.
