Krists_Biography

Krist (Chris) Anthony Novoselic was born on May 16, 1965 in Campton, California. Chris' parents, Maria and Krist, were Croation immigrants. He had a brother, Robert, and a sister, Diana. His family moved several times around California. In 1979, Krist and his family moved to Aberdeen.

Because Krist and his family were immigrants he had to use the name chris so they didn't get noticed as a Croation because Krist is a mostly a Croation name.

Krist was an outcast, considered a geek in school. In 1980, Krist's parents then decided to send him to Croatia to live with relatives to get away from his problems and to help him cope with his depression. Krist learned Croatian and enjoyed living there. A year later, Krist returned home.

Krist began smoking pot and drinking heavily. In his senior year, Krist bought himself a car, speakers, and a guitar. Along with his brother, Krist took guitar lessons with Warren Mason- the same person who taught Kurt Cobain. Eventually, Krist quit and locked himself in his room jaming with old blues records and woodshedding. Robert brought home Kurt one day who was intrigued by the music escaping Krist's romm.

In 1983, Krist graduated from high school. Thereafter, his parents divorced. In addition to this burden, Krist had to undergo plastic surgery to help correct a severe underbite. After six weeks of having his mouth completely wired up, Krist eventually met up with Kurt who was in a band called Fecal Matter. Krist and Kurt both were fans of a group called the Melvins. Fecal Matter then split up and Kurt and Krist decided to begin a band. They got Bob McFadden to play drums but then he left. Kurt and Krist went sepereate ways afterwards but then met up again. They got Aaron Buckhard to play the drums. And that was the beginning of Nirvana...
