Summer 2000

During the summer of 2000, a lot of things happened that changed my plans for schooling.

First of all, we couldn't afford for me to take any classes over the summer. Even the distance learning through UW-Extension couldn't be a go.

Secondly, I interviewed and got a job with Rogers Memorial Hospital as an Education Therapist. The kids that I teach are at the hospital for a long time, upwards of 9-18 months. The majority of them are from the Gary, IN area. I am their teacher for all subjects, and the kids vary in grade levels and abilities from about grade 5 to college. It's a wonderfully challenging job! I'm enjoying it immensely.

The third big change is in regards to my nephew, who was in a diving accident at the beginning of July. He dove into shallow water and broke his neck, becoming paralyzed from the chest down. It has really made us all appreciate what we have, and grateful that he was spared. For more of the story, visit my mom's page for day by day accounts!

Obviously, our lives changed quite a bit over a short period of time! I'm still planning on returning to school, just part time instead of full time. The financial aid came through, and I've signed up for classes already.
