In seeking a closer relationship with our Creator and Redeemer we desire to know Him better.
As it is important for a husband and wife to build their relationship through trust and sharing and to become closer by knowing each others character and the things that please or displease, so it is with our relationship with the Lord. In order to know Him better we need to know a little about His nature or character and what He desires from us. The question is now can we know God. If we look at Romans 11:33 we find it says,
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgements, and his ways past finding out!

Yet Psalms 95:10 says,
Forty years I loathed that generation; I said: "This peoples heart goes astray; They do not know my ways."

Here God is disappointed that His people did not know His ways.
So it makes sense that we can never while on this earth fully understand or know God but we can learn about His ways by reading His word and spending quiet time in prayer and waiting on the Lord, for when King David counselled his Son Solomon he told him to know God.
1 Chronicles 28:9-10  "as for you Solomon my son, know  the God of your father and serve him with a perfect heart and a willing soul, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the minds thoughts. If you seek him, he will let himself be found by you; but if you abandon him he will cast you off forever.
In Deu 4:29  Yet there too you shall seek the LORD, your God; and you shall indeed find Him when you search after Him with your whole heart and your whole soul.

So even though we can never fully know Gods ways or judgements he does desire for us to know Him. We may start to do this by prayer, quiet time and diligently studying His word.

When studying the word to learn more about The nature of God and His will for us we need to look at the whole Bible because as we see it is possible for us to get an unbalanced view of God if we concentrate only on some aspects as with some Churches that only work from the New Testament.

In looking through the word of God we find words used to describe His nature such as, love, light, good, faithful, trustworthy, King, Lord, merciful, great, our refuge, the Rock, just, sublime, wise, helper, consuming fire, jealous & awesome. However we get a clearer picture by looking at how God deals with His people both as a nation and as individuals.

So if we combine prayer, quiet time, and diligently studying God's word it will help us to see our God more clearly, follow Him more nearly and love him more dearly.

More importantly, as mentioned before in Deu 4:29, when we truly seek God  with our whole heart and soul we will find Him.

In finishing
1Ch 16:10  Glory in His holy name; rejoice, O hearts that seek the LORD!
Psa 34:11  The powerful grow poor and hungry, but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
