Railway Footbridge by Madeira Walk, September 2000

I spent 3 weeks on this painting lesson. Although, by the looks of it, I might not have been paying enough attention. The depth in the background trees is a bit understated. Although I paid special attention (under expert supervision) for getting the bond on the brick pillars represented correctly.

The bench (from where it was painted) is on a convergence crossway for 2 footpaths. Normally out of office/school hours it`s quite a quiet spot, but in the middle of painting this bridge, there was an apparent petrol crisis in the UK. It was good to see so many people using footpaths (or railways) rather than roads, for that brief period.

My Father for much of his life (before he retired) was a train driver. He drove hundereds of thousands of passengers under this bridge. I gave him the painting.
