Ashby, an extract from Whites Gazeteer and directory of Lincolnshire 1842

Ashby, a large and pleasant village on a gentle acclivity, 7 miles W.by N. of Brigg, on the road to Burringham Ferry, has in its township 2105 acres of land, extending over the western ridge of the wolds to the river Trent, where there is a large extent of low sterile moory land, now undergoing a fertilizing system of warpage, and where there is still a large Decoy (9 miles W. of Brigg,) abounding in wild Ducks and other aquatic birds, and having near it a handsome mansion, called Decoy Cottage, built in 1841, by its owner and occupier,  Hy. Healey Esq.  Among other proprietors of the soil are, Wm. Skipworth, Esq., lord of the manor;  W.C.W. Clark, Esq., and the Campbell, Chatterton, Keyworth, Everatt, Smith, and other families.  The great tithes are held by the trustees of the late J. Calah, Esq., and the vicar has 44 acres allotted at the enclosure.  The Wesleyan and Primitive Methodists have each a chapel here.
