The postcard of  Keadby was kindly loaned by Brian Peeps from his extensive collection of Lincolnshire scenes.

Keadby, an extract from Whites Gazeteer and directory of Lincolnshire 1842

KEADBY is a village and township, in Althorpe parish, 4 miles E. of Crowle, on the west bank of the Trent, at the point where the Stainforth and Keadby canal falls into that river. It has 369 inhabitants, and 1407 acres of land,. Robert Dunn. Esq., of Howden, is lord of the manor; but part of the soil belongs to the Rev. S. Hall, C. J. Phillips, Esq., and several smaller owners. The tithes are paid in kind. The Wesleyan and Primitive Methodists have each a chapel here. William Dixon, about a century ago, left for the poor, a house in the village, and two acres of land in the north field. The house is now in seven compartments, occupied by paupers, and the land was exchanged, at the enclosure, for nearly 20 acres on the North moor, which only lets for for about £5 a year, but is about to be greatly increased in value by the process of warping.
