Most of the people viewing this page, were not alive when Alva had center parking around the square. There were four theatres, Rialto, Ritz, Ranger, and Pix. Monfort's, Schumacher's, Beegle's, and Hester's Drug Stores. Safeway, Double O, Double B, Magnuson's, Eastside, and Bouziden's Grocery Stores. Tyree's and Tanner's for men's fine furnishings, Jett's, and Tanner Brothers for women's clothing. Central National and Alva State Banks.

Col. Bob Kirkbride making taffy. This picture was taken sometime during WW II. Everything was rationed, and there was very little candy. My father worked at the Golden Krust Bakery, and sometimes there would be a bit of extra sugar, Col.Kirkbride would get the sugar and make candy. He always shared the candy with the workers at the bakery, so I was fortunate enough to partake.
