Note from the Club Treasurer
Gary Wells

It is a sad day for our poultry club when we may have to announce that we will not be having a poultry show in 2002, because of the lack of interest by the club members. It takes allot of work to put on a poultry show, and it can’t be done by only a few members.

We worked hard for years to buy cages and secure a nice building for our show. We finally have done both. The arena in Waddington, NY is as good a facility for a show as any club has.

As for a few club members, we travel to several shows in the fall but for several members who can’t or don’t want to travel a long distance to shows, it is a great opportunity to show your birds close to home. It is also a good way to meet new poultry people and a chance to get good quality birds from breeders out of state.

It took a few years, but we are getting exhibitors from Rhode Island - Conn. - Mass. - Syracuse, and from Southern NY states.

Its too bad, but it looks like, that’s the way it is going.

Don’t forget to attend monthly meeting’s and support your club.
Gary Wells

Note from the Vice President
Floyd Rood

To All N.N.Y. Poultry Fanciers:

Please try to attend the April meeting or contact an officer of the Club if you cannot attend. We are still trying to save our Fall Show. We need volunteers to help, especially with the tear down and clean up the Show. Anyone with any ideas or thoughts on accomplishing this please Step forward and volunteer.

Please Help Save Our Show.

Thank you, Floyd Rood

Here is an interview with a Club member : Derek Raymo

Q: When did you get started in Poultry?

A: I have had poultry sense I was young. My Grandfather, Max Robertson, would buy Rhode Island Reds every spring, but I have been real serious in poultry for about 9 years now.

Q: Who helped you to get started 9 years ago and what breeds were they?

A: Gary Wells & Randy Merrick. My first Breeds were Silver Duckwings OEGB given to me by Gary and a trio of Silkies that I bought from Randy. Now I raise OEGB & Silkies.

Q: What Poultry Fanciers helped you out along the way.

A: A quite of few of our Club Members helped me out along the way. A few of them are, Gary Wells - Randy Merrick - Melvina Reid - Floyd Rood - Lee Bowhall - Ron Beckstead ( these are great brains to pick if you have any poultry questions).

Q: How long have you been improving your Poultry blood lines and what shows do you show at?

A: For a little over 6 years now. I show with my family at our Show Northern NY Poultry Fanciers also at Bath, NY - Syracuse, NY - Cobleskill, NY - Boston, Mass. - Malone Fair.

Q: What advice do you have for a New Poultry Fancier?

A: Start out with one Breed and Color. It is so easy to go overboard with all the breeds & colors that are out there. Don’t be nerves about asking other Poultry Fanciers for advice in what you are raising. Most Poultry Fanciers are more than happy to help.

Thank you Derek for taking the time to answer my questions. Karen

If you would like to be interviewed for our News Letter please let me know. Look for another Member’s interview next time.
