Here is an interview with a Club member : Gery Wells

Karen,
I started with Barnyard bantams when I was about 7 or 8 years old, and have had bantams every since. When I was about 16 years old I got my first purebred bantams, and have been raising them ever since. I have had probably every breed there is over the years, but I always go back to the Old English Game Bantams. Herbie Mills and Loyd Lennox of Ogdensburg, NY helped me alot when I was younger. The gave me some good birds to start with and helped me along the way with some good advice on raising them. You can always learn something new about raising them. Bruce Mathis of Oregon has helped me alot, not only on breeding different varieties of Old English, but he has sent me some nice birds over the years. My advice for younger or new fanciers is to start with one breed, and raise them for awhile, before you branch out to more varieties. Many people try to get some of every breed, and it just doesn’t work because different breeds require different housing and different care, especially feather legged birds. I try to discourage young and new fanciers from getting into them, until they have mastered clean legged birds first.
Gary
Thank you Gary for taking the time to answer my questions. Karen
