NORTHERN NY POULTRY FANCIERS THIRD QUARTER NEWS LETTER 2002
Hello Everyone, ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NORTHERN NY POULTRY FANCIERS FALL SHOW Up here, near the Canadian border, in Waddington, New York, another Northern New York Poultry Fanciers show has passed into history. It was Wet, Wet, Wet but it cleared by mid-morning, enabling us all to dry off a bit. Brisk trading went on at the swap meet outside, as the judging proceeded in the arena. Large Fowl in the American class, a Dominique Cockerel, shown by Auther and Mary Rankin was first. The Reserve was a Jersey Giant by Mice Lee. Sue Myers led the Asiatic class with a Black Langshan pullet. Karyn and Chuck Riggs led with a White Crested Black Polish cock in the Continental class. The Reserve was a White Crested Blue Polish also shown by the Riggs! We only had one entry in the Any other Standard Breed it was a Black Sumatra shown by Karyn and Chuck Riggs. The Champion Large Fowl was the Black Lanshan by Sue Myers. The Reserve was an Australop by Bill Whitney. As usual, at our show, we had large classes of Game Bantams. The Best Modern was a Brown Red Pullet, shown by Lee Bowhall. Lee's Brown Red Modern cockerel was reserve. Lee always put down a string of beautifully groomed and trained birds. Of one hundred and six Old English Game Bantams, an extra nice little Blue cockerel, owned by Gary Wells placed first. The Reserve was a Black Breasted Red cockerel owned by Karen Richie. In the Single Comb Clean Leg class, a White Rock pullet by Arthur and Mary Rankin was first. The Reserve was a Barred Rock cockerel by Lou Smith. The Rose Comb Clean Leg class was small this year. First was a Partridge Wyandotte hen by Kyle and Deb Yoccabucci. The Reserve was a White Wyandotte pullet shown by Bob Kirschner. For the Any Other Comb Clean Leg class, a White Crested Black Polish hen was first with a Black Sumatra pullet as the Reserve. Both were shown by Karyn and Chuck Riggs. In the Feather Leg class, best was a Blue Cochin pullet by Charles Anderson The reserve was a Mille Fleur D'Uccle cock by Dick and Thola Waldao. Champion APA Bantam was the Blue old English cockerel by Gary Wells. The ABA Champion was a White Call Duck by Evy Avery. Reserve APA was the Anderson Blue Cochin. Reserve ABA was Gary Wells, Blue Old English Game Bantam cockerel. Waterfowl class, Beast and Reserve Bantam Ducks were Evy Averys entries. Best Medium duck was a Saxony by Kyle and Deb Yoccabucci's. Best Heavy duck was Gray Rouen young duck shown by the Yoccabucci's. The Reserve Heavy was an Aylesbury young duck by John Orlowski. The Champion duck was a White Call by Evy Avery. The Reserve was the Gray Rouen by Kyle and Deb Yacobucci. Show Champion: Grand Champion was the Black Langshan pullet by Sue Myers. Reserve Champion: The White Call by Evy Avery. Some White Langshans shown by Joseph Seavey brought quite a bit of attention, as we seldom see this variety at smaller shows. And are we proud of the kids.! This year we decided to limit the Junior Show age to twelve. Best bird by a Junior was a Black Cochin Bantam cock by Sara Orlowski. The Reserve was a Buff duck by Mark Orlowski. Some of these birds would have given the open class exhibitors a run for their money! Floyd Rood brought in twelve pairs of bantams, to be given out to these young exhibitors. Floyd has some really good birds and this should encourage the kids to make the best - better. At this year's show we honored a well known couple in our poultry world. We did this secretly. At award time - Thola and Dick Waldou were called forward and presented with a plaque. This was given in appreciation for all they have done for this club. They have always done more than their pocketbook when funds were low, always willing to do everything they could And, whenever the occasion arose, they told others of our show and urged them to attend. The plaque also represented a Life Time Membership to them. A great big - big thank you to Judge Ralph Beamer. He always come through for us. Thank you for putting up with me and the boys. Thank you to Betty Perry for again clerking for the Open Class. And to Arthur Rankin for taking time to Judge the Junior Show. (He loves every minute of it.) And to Cory Hayes for clerking for Arthur. Cory is one of our teens who cares a great deal for the success of our show. He puts all himself into it. Thank you to all who helped set up and tear down. Most of all - thank you to all exhibitors. We hope to see you again next year. Submitted by, Kasey Erdman received Novice Champion for poultry showmanship at the State Fair in the 4-H division.
