COMMUNITIES AGAINST
CAPITALISM
No government will ever give you freedom
by L. Moore (9/05/01)
No government will ever give you freedom. Because to make a SYSTEM work, you need someone in charge, controlling it at all times. And in order to herd all THE PEOPLE into one system when we all have different wants and needs requires the use of deceit. Every new system that has claimed to be for freedom of THE PEOPLE has altered the truth in order to coerce others into joining their cause. I’m sure capitalists at first onset were being honest when they bragged about not having to pay anything to a feudal lord because they owned their own capital. But this same concept led us to some even more horrible conditions. The factories not only exploited the earth’s resources at a faster rate than ever before, but also scarred the lives of children, women, and men from malnutrition, pollution, and by overworking them to the point that they had no lives so to speak. I would like to clarify that here I speak of capitalism as if it is our governmental system. Capitalists have power over and control of politicians because they are the ones capable of funding much of the bigger political campaigns. Capitalists can buy candidates that suit their interests; they have the resources to successfully lobby in congress. Not only that, but people who have the resources to run for higher offices are often capitalists themselves, pushing their own agenda while ignoring the desires of the average citizen. Even though capitalism is technically an economic system, it is so intertwined with our government that they have become one and the same system.
Communism claims to be an economic system as well, however all systems need to be governed. Communism saw the great flaws in capitalism early on, but insists that you have to replace it with a different system. The only reason to replace the system is so that they can have control and tell people what to do and think. (But this time it will be for your own good. Ya Right!) To have someone or something (a system) in control of you is not the same thing as being in control of yourself, even if that system claims to be working in your interests. (Is democracy really democratic)? But what are your interests? What of those around you? Are they the same? Probably not. And how then can one system incorporate you all with your best interests at heart? They manipulate information so that it appeals to you as well as your neighbors. If they have to alter information to make it look more appealing so you’ll join their cause, isn’t that lying? Any system built on deceit (which is any system), will be found out eventually and mistrust of authority will breed once again. And what happens then, when the authority feels threatened? It will use force and violence to bring you back in line. To “keep the peace” of complacency that is necessary for the system to keep working. People wonder why communism hasn’t worked in practice yet, but if you think about it, it has. It hasn’t proven to be the utopian ideal yet, because no system ever will. And besides that, communism shuns spirituality and religion as false. They say it controls you and that you don’t want to be controlled (but you haven't realized this yourself yet, of course) so you can’t have religion. I think they are just afraid of the competition. I’m not a big fan of religion per se, but there is nothing wrong with having faith in something, with spirituality. A system which forces you to believe in something is just as bad as one who forces you to believe in nothing. It is another method to control your mind. Force is a method of violence against you.
That is why you should strive for real freedom. Personal freedom without harm to others is not a system – it is a choice, a lifestyle, and it can’t be forced upon you or taken from you. Once I read an essay on anarchism and one line stays in my memory after all these years: “anarchy means making it safe to be poor”. Imagine a world where, if you wanted to, you could choose to be poor and be safe on the street. You could choose to be poor and be safe in your shelter. You could be poor because corporations weren’t raping everyone’s wallet to turn a profit. You could work less and make more. And if you didn’t want to work, you could find food growing along the side of the streets or people who had too much would give it away because corporations wouldn’t be in control of food production. This sort of cooperative existence can’t be controlled by a system. In fact, a system hinders its existence because in a system you have to follow someone’s rules other than yours. Its like living with your parents as a teenager your whole life, longing to do what you want but having to deal with curfews, forced labor, minimum wage, and fake smiles. Because that is what it is like living in America now. Its possible to live free but you are penalized and criminalized and unsociable. This has got to change. And no system can offer real change. There has to be a total breakdown of the system – and yes, people will die. If the capitalist system is maintained, people will still die but never having truly lived. They are just being kept alive by a system, which, not unlike a breathing machine, only offers more years to life, not more life to years. We have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I’d rather have quality over quantity. I’d rather be free. I don’t need someone to tell me what I want, what I believe or don’t believe in. The system – It only works for them.
