This is what happens when your timing is too far advanced - "ping"ed out exhaust valves.  Shown is the middle section of a Saab 900 8 Valve Cylinder Head - note the pretty color!
Above, we see the demise of a 1985 900.  The car rolled down over an embankment, hitting a big pine tree.  The unbelted driver now drives a Nissan!

Two shots of a burnt piston from a 1978 99 Turbo.  The turbo "waste-gate" was not functioning and the engine was over boosted.  Smoked the tires, then the engine!
Note the scuff marks and crack.
Here we have a REAL "cut-away-view" of the front of the red car's transmission. Thank-you, big rock that caught the front of the transmission case.
They may look like pennies, actually they are the has-my-car-been-rolled-over indicators.
