RUGBY LEAGUE
by PAUL HAIGH
It just goes to show what teamwork combined with the right attitude can and do make things happen.

That's the story of the Canley Vale-Lansvale Junior Rugby League Club which celebrates it's 40th anniversary this year.

Last November a new board of management and committee was elected with the main goal - boost playing numbers, get more teams, restructure the finances and seek sponsors.

The Canley Vale based club participates in the Parramatta District Junior Rugby League competition with Adams Park its home ground.

Training has started with the 2002 season beginning on Saturday, April 27.

At the start of last year Canley Vale, as the club was then known, formed an association with Lansvale United Sports Club.
Thus the name of Lansvale was added to the official club name as hard working secretary Toni Luc

explained.
"We have an affiliation with the Lansvale club," she told the Advance.
She said the association had worked well and the club supported the football organisation in a variety of ways.
"We have six people on the board and 10 people on the committee," she said.

"It's about being pro-active and doing things, making things happen."
Last season the club fielded five teams, this year the numbers are up dramatically - nine teams will
take the field from under-6 through to under-13.

"This year we will be fielding nine teams and we have seventy new players, plus new coaches and officials." Luc said.

"Fairfield Council has also been most co-operative and our home ground, Adams Park, has been revamped." Hundreds of letters were sent out to club members, players and their families, recruitment drives were held at schools, shopping centres and Fairfield Markets, as well a sponsor hunt, which
netted new supporters and much needed money for funding.

Luc said the new recruits can play footy at the club for just $15 a season which includes the players keeping his/her jersey, shorts, socks, a cap, water bottle and participation trophy.

"We've done well as the club is located very much in the middle of a strong soccer playing belt," Luc said.
With Canley Vale-Lansvale thriving, the point is not lost on the junior league executive officer, Terry Rose.
"From my point of view, I'm very pleased to see what the new management has done at Canley Vale-Lansvale," Rose to the Advance.

"There are seven clubs in the Fairfield area and it's terrific to see a club with such a long tradition going ahead in leaps and bounds.
"It just goes to show what can be achieved with hard work and commonsense."
Like the emblem of the jersey proudly worn by the Canley Vale - Lansvale players the Kookaburra always has the last laugh.
