Q. I read I am supposed to discharge my battery every now and then, is this true? (and other battery related enquiries) |
A. If you are using the NiMH battery (the one that usually comes with your phone) it is suggested that for the best operations, you should allow your phones battery to discharge by leaving it on until the phone goes dead (off). The Nokia phone manuals reccomend this should be done two to three times on a new battery - then just do it once a week/month - whatever you prefer. It can be discharged hundreds of times but if you start to notice that your having to charge it up a lot because its noticibly not lasting as long as it used to, then its time to get a new battery. Temperature extremes will affect the ability of your battery to charge: allow it to cool down or warm up first before charging e.g. if you've lef tyour phone in your car and its become very cold, allow it to warm up inside before charging - and vice~versa! Leaving the battery in hot or cold places will reduce the capacity and lifetime of the battery. Always try and keep the battery between 15*C and 25*C (59*F and 77*F). A phone with a hot or cold battery may temporarily not work, even if the battery is fully charged. Battery performance is particularly limited in temperatures below freezing point. The charge time from a dead NiMH to fully charged is roughly 4 hours (based on ACP-7 charger and Nokia 3310). If your battery is taking longer then this then your phone may be faulty, consult the place where you purchased it from. The same goes for problems people may experience with the full 5 battery bars not filling - 8210 users I believe have experienced this, it will say fully charged but the bars are not full - I believe this is also a fault. Phones with vibra functions enabled will probably notice that battery time drops quickly and you'll find you need to charge the battery reguarly. This is normal, the 3210 with the motor fitted needs to be charged more reguarly then without it. The 3310,8210,7110 also need regular charging with all the vibra functions enabled - turn the vibra functions off for increased battery time. |

Q. What is the Closed User Group (CUG) menu for? |
A. This is a network service which allows you to specify a group of people whom you can call and who can call you. Even with CUG set up, it may still be possible on some networks to call emergency numbers such as 112. |
