ABOUT THE L.A.P.D. EXPLORER PROGRAM The Los Angeles Police Department Explorer Program is designed for youths between 14 to 21 years of age. This program provides an opportunity for youths to develop an insight if they would like to pursue a career in law enforcement. In an environment that encourages explorers to develop a positive relationship with the police, officers work with these youth to provide community services. Civilians who desire to become the world's finest L.A.P.D. Explorer must commit to the program. The Explorer Program is militaristic and discipline is an essential quality that explorers must learn to achieve. WHAT L.A.P.D. EXPLORERS DO Explorers serve a wide range of non-hazardous police fuctions. They assist Police Department personnel with systematic searches for evidence, report writing communications, desk offiicer duties, command post operations, crime prevention surveillance, disaster assistance, crowd and traffic control, security at major events, and other fascinating assignments, some which help earn money for the explorers' assigned post. The earnings are used by the post for camping trips and tours to law enforcement agencies in other cities and states. Explorers also particiipate in law enforcement and athletic competitions with other agencies and posts. |
