NAME : Lonny James Bash BIRTHPLACE: Boise, Idaho HEIGHT : 6'3" WEIGHT : 214 lbs. |
In love with a woman he could never attain, stricken by low self-confidence, doomed to failure, and ever percieved as the underdog : Lonny "Boom-Boom" Bash has been said to be all of these things. What no one thought, however, is that he'd someday make his critics eat their words. Lonny Bash comes from anything but a pure pedigree wrestling background : as the eldest son of long-time wrestling "jobber" and current NPW official Dan Bash, who's lifetime wrestling record was 1/647/2, his family name almost doomed him to a life of wrestling obscurity. Almost... but not quite. Lonny made his debut in NPW when it started, wrestling under the name of Lonny "Boom-Boom" Bash - the name he still uses today. Instantly falling head over heels for NPW wrestler Ashley "Mean Streak" Hendricks, he also quickly fell in with elements that weren't beneficial to wrestling success as he immediately hooked up with another young hopeful, Kid Galahad. They had no luck whatsoever in their "Yahooligans" tag team, and when Galahad changed his name to "Lord Galahad" and relegated Lonny to the role of "Squire Bash", they had no luck winning as "The Blue Bloods", either. They were an interesting team, though, switching between the "face" personas of "The Yahooligans" and the "heel" personas of "The Blue Bloods" back and forth every week. Lonny wanted to remain true to his good-natured roots, and Galahad wanted to remain the tough, hard-nosed heels that had *him* in charge of the team. Thus, the two hapless fools would end up flipping a coin week in and week out to decide on their gimmick... with "The Blue Bloods" always winning the toss. Later, Lonny would break the partnership when he discovered a two-headed coin was being used, and he'd leave Gally behind forever - or so he thought. His next team-up wasn't much more successful, however, as he was recruited by Stevie Kay for his "Camp Kay" stable. There, he was soon relegated to further obscurity. And when Kay recruited Galahad into "Camp Kay", and handed him a position higher than Lonny, it just got worse. Soon, Lonny and Galahad were attempting to turn Lonny into "BASH", a berserker-raging monster-type. It didn't fly, and Lonny eventually left them behind when he returned to solo action. Primarily a tag team wrestler more by chance than by design, Lonny's first break would come in February of 2002, when NPW legend "Think Tank" Turner decided to take Bash on as his partner in attempt to win the NPW Tag Team titles. And so they did, in a Hardcore Handicap Match against the equally-legendary "Untouchables" and the deadly "Biscuits" tag team of Direwolf and "Badd Crazy" Louie Z. Lonny's first taste of gold would come that night, when the tag team Bash dubbed "The Chosen Two" (a play off of Turner's "Chosen Few" stable of old) won the belts. When Turner decided to abdicate his half of the titles two months later to chase the NPW championship again, Bash was allowed to name a new partner... and chose "Badd Crazy" Louie Z. It was then, perhaps, that Lonny Bash would first begin to step out of the shadows of others and become a real part of a team - a team called "Extreme Incorporated". Their gimmick was simple, but highly entertaining and unique : each week, Z and Bash would debut a new gimmick, spoofing wrestlers and celebrities alike, and causing the fans to howl in delight with their impersonnations of everything from whitebread rappers to Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. "Extreme Incorporated" quickly became the most loved tag team in NPW, and captured the NPW Tag Team titles once more from "The Rock Brothers" in July. After the departure of Louie later in the year, however, Lonny would find himself sinking back down into relative low-to-mid-card status. It wouldn't last forever. Around December, "Think Tank" Turner would step back into the picture, having taken control of NPW. In an act of mercy, perhaps, Turner assigned Cricket Rock - the diminuitive and dark-souled twin of cheerleader Didi Rock - to guide Lonny's career. Cricket's long-time attempts to turn Lonny to "the dark side of the Force" would sometimes seem futile, but something *did* happen : Lonny began to develop an edge. Competing in the now-defunct MSWA in a tournament to win a shot at the Television title... he won. Though he failed to win the title itself, he'd return home stronger. Paired up with Darwin in the new tag team "The Rock Machine", Lonny would hand "The Rock Brothers" another loss, and look forwards towards the future. While still dubbed "The Prince of the Undercard", not everyone felt he would stay there forever... but no one expected what would happen next. In April of 2003, Lonny - still paired with new buddy Darwin in "The Rock Machine" won two titles in one night. First, he defeated a number of men to win an SWF Rules Hardcore Ladder Race to capture the NPW Television championship - and later in the night, he'd roll up Keith Edwards to win the Canadiana title. The once-hapless Bash had done the near-impossible... but it wouldn't stop there. Just a scant two weeks later, he and Darwin would capture the NPW Tag Team championships over "The Wrecking Crew" team of Edwards and Ron Havok - and Lonny would capture the heart of Ms. Hendricks, too. Lonny "Boom-Boom" Bash had not only arrived... he'd become the most actively successful wrestler in the four-man "Rock Machine" stable. Today, Lonny stands as one-half of the NPW Tag team champions - and stands on his own two feet as a young man who's finally come into his own. What does his future hold? Time will tell - but don't be surprised if he makes a run for a major singles title... and even the NPW title itself. Well, don't be *too* surprised, anyhow. |
