Standing on the bridge of the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Coronet, Captain Jorvan Antilles of the newly reformed Corellian Security Force watched cargo vessels and escorts that frequented the system come and go. Jorvan commanded three massive Star Destroyers, six swift gunships, and hundreds of starfighters. He never seriously considered that anyone would be foolish enough to attack the Corellian system, especially with all of the firepower at his disposal.
In a matter of seconds, his world got turned upside down.
The obnoxious blaring of alarm klaxons pierced through the soft hum of activity on the bridge. Annoyed, Captain Jorvan turned from the bridge viewports to face the sensor consoles.
“What’s going on?” he demanded.
The sensor officer, a Selonian female, was quickly tapping commands into her console keypad. “Sir, we have incoming hostiles in sector 6.” The bridge tactical holographic display came to life, showing a holographic schematic of the Corellian system that zoomed in on the planet Corellia. A small cluster of green dots near the center of the display represented the nine CorSec ships in orbit around Corellia. Three blue dots indicated the New Republic vessels patrolling the sector.
Thirty red dots indicated enemy warships, and they were all coming straight at the Coronet.
Jorvan’s eyes widened and he found himself without the ability to speak for a few moments. Then his training took over, and he began barking orders to everyone in sight.
“All crew to battle stations,” he shouted to nobody in particular. “Sensors, I want identification on all of those hostiles, and I want it ten minutes ago! Fighter coordinator, scramble and form all available squadrons and stand by for further orders. Communications, poll the defense force and have all vessels form up in defensive. Alert Ambria Prime that we’re under attack. Sensors, do you have an identification yet!?”
The Selonian sensor officer nodded, pointing at a new set of displays. “Seven star destroyers, five of Imperial-class, two of Victory-class. 6 Strike-class, 6 Carrack-class, 6 Lancer-class, and five escort frigate. Star Destroyers in wedge, support above and below.”
The Captain nodded. “Coordinator, status.”
Off to the side, the starfighter coordinator glanced at his display. “All squadrons launched, sir. Three squadrons from the Majestic-class and three on patrol have also formed up. CorSec command indicates that it has launched three additional wings of LAF and H/LAF fighters, ETA ten minutes.”
“Message to all available attack starfighters and bombers: hit the lead Impstar Deuce and hit it hard. Interceptors and superiority fighters are to clear the way.”
The fighter coordinator acknowledged. Flight after flight of starfighters, from X-wings, Y-wings, A-wings, and E-wings to Corellian LAF and H/LAF fighters, formed up into attack formations within attack formations and streaked off towards the enemy formation. Anti-starfighter weaponry from the light cruisers and frigates, and then agile TIE Interceptors and Avengers met the fighters as they made their approach to their target, picking off some of the slower fighters.
As the interceptors and superiority fighters broke off to engage and draw the fire of the enemy TIE fighters, two squadrons of Y-wings dropped to within five meters of the hull of the target Star Destroyer and fired off a salvo of proton torpedoes at the vessel’s bridge and broke off. Right behind the Y-wings came a formation of X-wings who fired off a second salvo of torpedoes.
The result was catastrophic. The bridge shields was able to absorb the explosive damage of the first salvo of torpedoes, but not that of the second. Torpedo after torpedo slammed into the bridge tower, destroying the shield generator domes and communications tower, as well as completely destroying the bridge itself.
Crippled, the Star Destroyer drifted, dead in space.
As the fighters had been making their attack runs, the twelve vessels under the command of Captain Antilles had been moving towards the enemy formation at flank speed. Three wings of starfighters, scrambled from the surface starfighter bases on Corellia, overtook the vessels and angled in to assist the fighter squadrons already engaged.
The moment the two formations of warships came into range of each other, their vessels opened up with long-range turbolasers. The battle degenerated into little more than a slugging match surrounded by flights of starfighters engaged in furious dogfights. As Jorvan was well aware, slugging matches were won by whoever had the ability to do more damage, and in this instance, he had a clear disadvantage.
Fifteen minutes into the battle, a second Majestic-class cruiser and two gunships from the Fifth Fleet that had been assigned to relieve the three New Republic vessels on patrol arrived in system. However, even their timely arrival was not enough to swing the tide of battle.
In the next hour, both of Jorvan’s escorting Star Destroyers, as well as five of his six gunships were destroyed. Of the six patrolling Fifth Fleet vessels that had come to his aid, two – one cruiser and one gunship – were destroyed. In addition, three quarters of the fighters under his command had been destroyed by enemy fire.
Finally, with the Coronet badly damaged, Jorvan reluctantly ordered the vessels under his command to withdraw. As stars faded to starlines, he glanced at the tactical display. Of the thirty enemy vessels, only seventeen remained. He smiled grimly and shook his head.
Moments later, the Coronet and its escorts emerged from hyperspace at the edge of the Corellian system. Still standing before the bridge viewports, Captain Antilles turned to his communications officer.
“Message to Ambria Prime.”
“Connection established.”
“New Republic Fleet Command, this is Captain Jorvan Antilles of the Corellian Security Force. Corellia has been taken by vessels of the Pentastar Alignment fleet. I repeat, Corellia has been taken by the Pentastar Alignment. Battle information and vessel rosters are attached. The vessels under my command are standing by for further orders.
“Antilles out.”

The above, regarding the Pentastar Alignment invasion of the Corellian system, is to have happened at the same time as the attack on Coruscant. Note that Corellia is the only planet of the five inhabited worlds of the system that has been taken by the Pentastar Alignment.
