New Republic Senate

Dedication of the New Capital

February 22, 2002
Haron, Ambria Prime

The dedication ceremony of the new Capital of the New Republic was a celebration unmatched in recent history. Flights of gleaming new T-65 XJ3 X-wing starfighters streaked by overhead, trailing multicolored streams of smoke in their wake while confetti rained down upon the cheering crowds lining the streets. Indeed, the cheers of the crowd drowned out the sound of the parade of government officials and soldiers representing each of the one thousand twenty-four sector delegations of the Senate making its way up the main avenue into the inner city of the capital.

The inner city had been designed in the shape of the Seal of the New Republic; as the parade made its way through the majestic arched gateway of the southern entrance, it passed numerous government buildings, including the stately residence of the Chief of State. While the style of the architecture was very similar to that of the former capital on Talasea, much of the ornamentation had been done in native Ambrian coral.

It was a straight march up the main avenue to the wide plaza at the center of the city, where uniformed Ambrian Guardsmen kept the path of the parade clear and prevented the people from climbing up the statues of the founders and heroes of the New Republic in their attempts to get a better view of the parade.

The parade halted at the steps of the majestic domed Senate Hall, the manifestation of the core values and beliefs of the New Republic as embodied within the Charter. Standing in the open doorway of the Senate Hall, President Dimitri Summons, the Ambrian head of state, and Councilor James Collins, the elected representative of the Ambrian Sector to the Senate, waited to greet Chief of State Alicia Marniss, Minister of State Dystane, and Senior Councilor Borsk Fey'lya.

After a short dedication speech, President Summons officially dedicated the city to the New Republic and presented Chief of State Marniss with the 'key' to the inner city. The young Chief of State then made a statement of gratitude, and formally accepted the 'key' in the name of the New Republic.

A new chapter of New Republic history had begun.
