Homosexuality | ||||||||
In short, homosexuality is the habitual sexual attraction to someone of the same sex. No one knows however, the origin of homosexuality, or whether it is passed down biologically or acquired throughout life. The percentage of homosexuals has supposedly been the same for hundreds of years, it’s just now it has a name and people aren’t as “hush hush” about it. The percentage of homosexuals in the United States is approximately 10%. Just like in the United States, China does not openly accept homosexuality and its practices, and even has a prejudice against it. Homosexuality, to the Chinese, is considered a Western disease that pollutes the spirit. Still, since China is such a traditional country, it does not allow homosexuality and tries at all costs to conceal it, probably hoping it will go away. Homosexuals in China, as well as in the United States, usually keep their sexual preferences a secret, fearing that their secrets be revealed. This is because homosexuals are subject to constant harassment in China. There are no laws against the discrimination of homosexuals and the harassment of them. Transsexuality, bisexuality, and transvestitism are also sexual activities not tolerated in the Chinese culture. Transsexuality is the process by which one changes his or her sex by surgery. Bisexuality is the sexual attraction to both sexes – male and female. And transvestitism is the process by which one dresses like the opposite sex, which is usually associated with homosexuality. Even though these “abnormal” sexualities are frowned upon, they still very much exist. |
