Role Of The Grandparents
Since great-grandparents are extremely rare, grandparents are the highest of authority in China. They are also considered highest in rank and are therefore given the utmost respect. This is because they are the oldest and wisest. These two qualities, age and wisdom, are valued and revered in Chinese culture. Since most Chinese families are extended families, grandparents live with their children and grandchildren. This gives them the opportunity to interact and to be involved with their grandchildren’s lives. Grandparents have the most power and therefore are very important in making family decisions. Whenever the grandparents are present at holidays or at special events, they are given the supreme honor.
