The Nuclear Family
The nuclear family is a kin group consisting of a married couple and their unmarried children.  This kin group is widespread in human societies.  However, a nuclear family only lasts as long as the parents and children remain together.  Most people belong to at least two nuclear families in their lives – the family of orientation, the family in which one is born and grows up in, and the family of procreation, formed when one marries and has children.
