Indonesian court jails senior member of JI
In Indonesia, a senior member of the al Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror
group has been jailed for seven years for possessing weapons and explosives.
Imron Baihaki, alias Mustopa, alias Mustafa, was found guilty of the offences at East
Jakarta district court.
However, the court cleared him of charges of terrorism, which carries a maximum
sentence of death.
Mustafa was arrested at his home at Bekasi near Jakarta in July last year.
Police found an M-16 rifle, ammunition and several cassettes and discs related to JI.
JI is blamed for the Bali nightclub bombings of October 2002, which killed 202 people,
a blast at the Marriott hotel in Jakarta last August, which killed 12 people, and a
string of other attacks.
Police say Mustafa has admitted being a former head of a regional JI command which
covered Indonesia's South Sulawesi, Sabah in Malaysia and the southern Philippines.
