Eleven rebels killed in Aceh clashes
Indonesian troops have shot dead 11 suspected separatist rebels in two days of
clashes in Aceh.
A military spokesman says the 11 members of the Free Aceh Movement, or GAM,
were shot dead in nine separate clashes around the province on Tuesday and
Wednesday.
Aceh has been under martial law since last May when the Indonesian military began
an offensive to wipe out GAM, which has been fighting since 1976 for independence.
The military says a firearm, a rocket-propelled grenade, a hand gun and ammunition
were seized from those killed in the latest clashes.
It accuses the rebels of killing a 40-year-old village chief in East Aceh on Tuesday.
